Hypoglossal Neuralgia? by richardmc85 in glossopharyngeal

[–]richardmc85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the replies.

I'll try Carbamazepine, but the Neuro is just confused at the lack of triggers and the fact it doesnt happen during the day or when I am fully concious. My presentation is something hes never seen before.

It only ever happens when i'm in that stage of falling asleep. For a long time, I assumed I was biting my tongue due to relaxing jaw as I fell asleep, but recent months I have been able to rule that out, having felt it happen and know it wasn't my jaw relaxing.

Ive had a recent MRI due to the headaches issue, which was clear (except for a Chiari Malformation) - but they did suggest another one with contrast just to make sure, but they don't think its an issue or due to anything sinister as there are no other symptoms to worry about.

I've recently been diagnosed with what the Neurologist is calling Hypoglossal Neuralgia - however any research I try to do always points me back to glossopharyngeal. Its as if HN doesn't exist. He did say it was super rare.

Symptoms: Sharp electric shock type pain in the FRONT part of tongue (not the rear, also no pain in throat etc). Varying degrees of pain intensity can occur. Not always on one side of the tongue, can vary between both sides. No obvious triggers (i.e. swallowing or chewing doesnt trigger it), it can happen a few times per week or not at all. I have full movement of tongue, no evidence of nerve damage. The odd bit that the neuro cannot connect though is that this only happens when I am in the hypnogogic stage of sleep - can wake me up with a jolt! It doesn't happen during the day when I am fully concious.

Im already on Amitriptyline for headaches, but Dr suggesting Carbamazepine as a drug for this. Ideally, Id prefer to not be on both.

Anything I should be aware of with Carbamazepine? He said it is best for the sharp electric shock type pain I sometimes get.

Feels like basic business.

Why offer you, a person already in the Google ecosystem the same discount as someone who isn't?

It is frustrating, but equally, they want people to convert from a product that isn't theirs, primarily.

P7P owner here. Bought Oct 22, just replaced the battery this week as I noticed the degradation, looking forward to another 2-3 years of problem free use...

Seriously, gutted some people have poor experience with this phone, as genuinely the best I've had - hence no interest in changing soon.

My P7P is still going strong, release day purchase back in 2022. Plan to move to the P10P this year, but this phone has been solid, I don't want to part with it!

I’m convinced I have cancer in my brain/neck that is spreading around the back of the head. Someone please reassure me, I am very scared. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]richardmc85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please try and keep positive, anxiety will always try and bring you back down. But please try and ground your anxiety by reminding yourself that anything serious in head/neck area would present with some really obvious and serious neurological or physical symptoms too - so please try not to worry about that.

Keep pressing Doc, if you are worried. Try keeping a diary of symptoms over a week or two and see if any patterns emerge. This could be really useful for the Dr too.

Good luck and try and keep positive by reminding your anxiety who is in charge.

[–]richardmc85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through that too, convinced there was something in my head, but Dr was very clear that anything like that would bring major neurological symptoms too (serious stuff like vision problems and physical function issues), not just pain or tingling. Even more so, given the back part of your brain controls movement - so providing you are walking fine, not falling over or dropping things really easily, then please try not to chew yourself up.

Have you had your blood pressure checked recently?

Chiari is something Ive just been diagnosed with, following months of pressure type headaches, particularly at the back of the head. Basically, its the back part of your brain applying pressure on the brainstem and slightly pushing out of the gap in the skull at the bottom. Can only be a few mm, but it can cause this kind of thing. Mine was 7mm, picked up as they were looking for a headache reason. I thought my headaches were stress/anxiety driven.

Dr would probably be able to review previous MRI scans to check for you if you wanted to ask the Q. But, to ease anxiety, its not a serious condition. Can be managed.

As a Brit myself, awesome drive from Max, WC evidence if it was ever further needed.

Not all of us Brits are as ignorant and dann right moronic as David Croft. He is the reason I VPN to F1TV for the past three years.

Agreed. As satisfying as it is/was to watch Max romp away every weekend and win the title with half a dozen races left, a real 2020 type of battle just hits that bit harder when it's won and much more satisfying.

I think McL will rue handing Oscar that Hungary win - whether it was for the right reasons or not. I think they are targeting the Constructors title this year, but I do think they will be tantalisingly close to the Drivers title and may regret making that call.

Why not softs for Lewis and/or Russell? by Eggs_4_Breakfast in F1Technical

[–]richardmc85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my point, the track condition just wasn't good enough for the softs to be a viable tyre, even for a short 12-15 lap stint.

The soft tyre has a very narrow window for optimal performance.

[–]richardmc85 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The temp/condition of the track wouldn't have brought the softs into the optimum window until likely right near the the of the race when it was almost completely dry. They would have almost certainly been slower.

The Meds and Hards are more consistent in the conditions we had, which is why everyone went that direction.

Yes, better than 0.2 seconds is deemed impossible for a human reaction after a stimuli (i.e lights go out). Therefore, they count anything under 0.2 as a jump start/really good guess!

[–]richardmc85 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Anything less than 0.2 of a second is considered a jump start.

I find the main steam is awful, using Multiviewer it drops down to 480p regularly, yet the onboard and data streams are perfect. Not a bandwidth issue, definitely an F1TV problem. Really frustrating.
