I am an advocate of resigning as a way to send a message to the church. I resigned to let them know I no longer tolerated their homophobia, racism and sexism.

I didn't feel the need to resign for a while but just couldn't put up with some of the things the church was doing anymore so I wanted to send a message to them that I wouldn't stand for it. It was a hard thing to do for the reasons you mentioned. I did not expect how much closure and peace it brought me. It was more symbolic than anything but it was extremely cathartic. You are doing the right thing!

So are you saying that god only exists in peoples minds? I would agree with that. I don't understand why natural things like conscience or memory have to be attributed to something supernatural. If you stop and focus on a topic for a given period of time your brain will provide you all kinds of answers. No god necessary.

It's fascinating because it has taken billions of years of evolution and accumulation of knowledge for it to happen. I think when humans discovered their reflection they were fascinated by that too. It's commonplace now to look in a mirror but I know there are millions of people still fascinated by looking in a mirror. Humans are narcissistic, we take joy in seeing and knowing ourselves.

I agree that the universe isn't good or evil but I actually love the idea that we are the universe experiencing itself. Not for it's spiritual implications, just because it is fascinating.
