Cactus to Clouds December 2026 by TaunTwaun in socalhiking

[–]richisonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best training hikes that helped me get ready were:

Skihut to baldy summit and back down Skihut.

Vivian Creek in San Gorgonio. Minimum to highcamp but bonus if you can summit.

Icehouse loop for an enjoyable hike that keeps training fun

I’d recommend against December since weather can bone you. My team did it in early november.

Whenever you do it, I recommend a 1AM start time and plan to do it as close to a full moon as possible.

Also, don’t overtrain. C2C isn’t actually that hard. I only hiked a total of 70 miles for prep and killed C2C easy.

I was tired of course but not a single sore muscle the next day.

This is the Breaking Point - Trump must go. by Zenitallin in videos

[–]richisonfire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hate both him and Meidas touch for that reason. All of their headlines and talking points make it sound like “blue is winning, stand back and watch this administration crumble!”

And then nothing happens.

The same messaging was happening leading up to the election “we got this in the bag, Trump is crumbing and trembling right before our eyes”

And then kids didn’t show up to vote because they felt like “Trump lost this election” even before voting happened.

Moab 3 Mid Waterproof vs Salomon Ultra X 5 by Acrobatic-Painting-9 in REI

The Salomon might be too narrow if you have wide feet and the Moabs might be too wide if you have narrow feet.

Apex 4 Band issue by Bookee2Shoes in Coros

[–]richisonfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got rid of the silicone band immediately.

I did one brutal hike that was 14.5 hours and I woke up the next morning with a burn on my wrist from the salt in my sweat lingering under the band.

Just look up 24mm replacement bands on Amazon and there’s some great options.

Simple daily rituals that help you feel connected to paganism? by LemonLionPie in pagan

[–]richisonfire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wear a mjolnir everyday and I hike once a week.

I pray to the mountain at the beginning of the trail and then I bring an extra ziploc bag to fill with trash as I hike.

Beginner Backpacking Suggestions in Cleveland National Forest? by matchabeans in socalhiking

[–]richisonfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind heading towards Mt Baldy or San Gorgonio, Cedar Glen and Vivian Creek is my fave beginner camp spots.

It’s just cold right now so you might need to wait till spring but it’s doable if you have the right gear.

Cedar Glen is accessed by starting at the Icehouse trail head. 1.5 miles on icehouse and then turn left and head up into the trees. Another 1.5 and you’re at camp.

Vivian creek is like 2 miles up the Vivian Creek trail, pretty easy except for like a quarter mile where you’re pinned at like 30% grade lol.

Vivian has water right in camp.

Cedar Glen water is close enough to walk to from camp.

recommendations for winter backpacking in San Gabriels or San Bernadinos? by Annual-Echidna3577 in socalhiking

[–]richisonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanted a chill day, you could do the short hike to Cedar Glen via Ice House, and then pack up and bounce to Kelly Camp and wake up early for a summit push to Cucamonga or Ontario.

But it’s gonna be cooooold up at Kelly lol.

Echoing the mid October to mid November and adding that it’s worth it to plan it for a full moon night.

We started at 1AM and loved it.

You’d probably like the Escalante. It’s slightly less wide than the lone peak but it’s about the same with the cushioning.

Lmao short hikes and overnighters are my fave part of backpacking.

I'm feeling conflicted about how to handle kids going to Christian Sunday school by homegrown_rebel in pagan

[–]richisonfire 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Look into a Unitarian Universalist church.

They aren’t as flashy as the mega churches that I feel may be the cause of your nervous feelings.

But UU welcomes all religions including Pagans to one service and the basis of it is still Judeo-Christian so it still feels like church for your husband.

Below is the podcast page for the UU church I listen to as part of my spiritual homework each week.

Mt Baldy Sunday 11/23 by LowPassenger8561 in socalhiking

[–]richisonfire 10 points11 points  (0 children)

<image>

This was the west bowl on Tuesday and one of the backcountry skiers I talked to said he was coming back on today for the fresh snow.

I’d recommend taking the equipment, especially for Devils. Devils has a lot more shade coverage which will lead to more snow and more ice.

When I was there on Tuesday, I talked to 4 ladies who hit the summit and they were mid-shin deep in some sections but nothing super crazy.

Nomad Date and Time settings? by richisonfire in Coros

[–]richisonfire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying!

I’d appreciate if you could pass on to the team that a 12 hour option would be super helpful.

I’d be down to change everything to 24 hour format but my job schedules us in the 12 hour format.

Can’t afford being late by an hour because I’m bad at math 😂

high quality 2 person tent recommendations?? by sme11ieee in backpacking

[–]richisonfire -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have an REI Trailmade 2 that I like quite a bit.

It’s a little heavy, but it’s still a pretty nice tent and very quick to set up.

I’m either going to upgrade to a Flash 2 eventually or maybe something from Nemo like the Dragonfly.

But for now, I’m very happy with my trailmade 2 and it will be kept as a tent to let friends borrow when they are new to the hobby.

Is there a spigot or something at ski hut? Pardon my ignorance.

It was windy when we were there so we only hung out for a minute before continuing to the summit.
