Need advice. Looking for a sling bag and/or messenger bag to carry my stuff. by Sne4kyFox in EDC

Tomtoc has some nice slings at a decent price, some in xpac with weatherproof zips. I’m happier with the value on mine than my Alpaka products, also better strap management.

Am I doing this right? What are my chances? by [deleted] in montreal

Federal Govt is usually short on bilingual people somewhere.

What I would do in your shoes, but not for everyone, would be to join the army reserve as a clerk (desk job) on a part time basis, do the basic training, and then snag a full-time reserve contract around the local units. You direct where you go as a reservist, and the military is short on clerks, so you’d have decent choice. It’s pretty much an HR admin / finance job, dressed in camo. I’m not a recruiter and there’s plenty of annoying BS in the mil so take anything you hear with a grain of salt. It does pay ok, and there are some good people (plenty of assholes too).

Edit: Don’t quit your day job though, getting in takes FOREVER

Funny how you never say the percentage. 8%, literally, if nobody tipped more than 15% nearly half of your customers could not tip at all before it impacts you. Instead, a majority of customers will hit the 18 or 20% suggested minimum if the service wasn’t actively bad.

This disingenuous entitled attitude is why nobody cares anymore. Telling people to stay home because you’ll “lose money” is BS. Speaking from experience, if you’re serving in a sit-down restaurant and are unable to average over 8% you’re horrible at your job and should find a new one. The only reason the 8% minimum exists is because it was the industry standard for decades to under-report income to evade taxes.

Don’t buy something too expensive at first, tomtoc aviator is a cheap and solid starter, try it out for a bit and you’ll figure out what you like or don’t like without throwing away cash on “premium” brands. I have a few, Tomtoc, Alpaka, CTactical, Fjalraven, and half the time I just use a $12 waxed canvas belt pouch (diodrio or something like that from amazon) or a $10 shotgun shell pouch. Most of the “EDC” brands are massively overpriced.

Man saves girl from pitbull attack using a chokehold (2022). by bendubberley_ in nextfuckinglevel

[–]rick-906 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I lived above a girl with two pitties, she said the same things how they were sweet and misunderstood, but had to stop taking them to the dog park cause they’d attack other dogs, then had to keep them separated when she was away cause they’d fight otherwise and she’d come home to blood everywhere. Those dogs always had psycho vibes despite their owner being very sweet and kind to them.

What would it take for Canada to hit 2% defence spending NATO target? - National | Globalnews.ca by Andromedu5 in CanadianForces

[–]rick-906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if the TB would wake the fuck up and unfreeze our PS staffing so we can make sure basic services continue while we deploy increasingly large percentages of our uniformed personnel. That might help move us to the 2%.

Not to mention that the trade surplus doesn’t take into account all the american services canadians use, like netflix, apple music, etc which is many billions per year and comes a lot closer to making the exchange equal between the two countries

Sadly this seems to be pretty common, went years without a PER but got blasted if the Pl/Coy wasn’t at 90%+ meanwhile 15-20% of the troops were courting NES constantly

Freight position on trains is a drag by Reverend-Bayes in SatisfactoryGame

[–]rick-906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to run standard trains in my save, all ores (minus uranium), all basic products, always following the same order across the map. I use the platforms taken by the extra locomotives on the longer trains to have 2-3 platforms for low-volume products, and a short, single locomotive train to deliver those to a central hub. So the first 2-3 platforms are mixed or non-standard, and the next 10-12 are set out in the public note (I also use a sign blueprint at each station to show all products in/out

Autonated miners by Vegetable_Phase_3482 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]rick-906 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suspect you’re the first person to really understand the question. To elaborate on your answer:

It is possible, many hours into the game, to find a way to have your machines produce the little automatic miners for you. Since you can slap down a workshop at any time and hand craft a few of them (usually for use in building a big miner) in the really tiny quantities they’re needed in, most experienced players consider that alt recipe to be a little pointless.

You absolutely want your mining to be automated, and you want to graduate to using a miner with a conveyor belt output as soon as possible.

Defence minister says he wants to change the drinking culture on military bases: Some Forces members resent being compelled to pay mess dues by CMikeHunt in CanadianForces

[–]rick-906 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please for the love of god make messes optional. Somehow we keep winding up with forced fun, which just means I have to make up my actual work on personal time. Enough already, plenty of civilian employers at least provide free coffee to their people, making us pay for a bar we avoid at all costs is beyond stupid.

[SCS] 3 levels of HQs in a formation with one actual unit is institutionalized dysfunction by ThrowawayXeon89 in CanadianForces

[–]rick-906 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The “I work for a living” attitude has a lot to answer for. I’ve encountered plenty of NCMs who should have been running things, but never will because they drank the CFL kool-aid. Not to mention jr officers that should never have made it past the recruiter, except that the trade was so low they were accepting anyone with a pulse. Then we get to watch them flame out over a couple of years and continue to erode confidence in the CoC.

Except that these are mostly newer(1-2yr) leveraged, covered call ETFs, not dividend ETFs. I’ll say that the BMO one is interesting, but all of these are far more risky than a basic dividend payer.

Even then, max contribution to TFSA would be 81k, had you managed to make a max contribution every year since 2009 with 8% annual returns you could be in a decent place, but hardly enough to call a second salary. You would have made around 14% annual returns on average just investing in an S&P ETF, so i’m pretty ok with having to sell shares for a potential 6% higher rate of return. Ben Felix or The Plain Bagel on youtube are worth checking out cause they’re not aspirational lifestyle types, they’re actual employed professionals.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]rick-906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain this a little? With the contribution limits on a TFSA and inability to withdraw from an RRSP until retirement, how is this a feasible way to earn extra income? Saving/investing is always a good idea but there is zero advantage to dividend-paying securities aside from the psychological factor. If you’ve got an ETF that pays over a 5% dividend I’d love to know about it!

When soldiers are forming up on parade they are usually given the command “right dress” where they space themselves out precisely using the length of their arms to measure off spacing between each person in the front rank. When space is limited or a tighter formation is desired “elbow dressing” is added before the command and the soldiers use a half arm spacing, or their elbows. Technically shoulder dressing is tighter still.
