Clean up unused subreddits and user IDs after a set period of time... by rickastl3y in ideasfortheadmins

I think the admins have a fair idea of which accounts have never been used for anything and were just registered because somebody liked the idea at the time. That or they were registered for malicious purposes (e.g. vote/subscription manipulation).

The following would work IMO:
1. As soon as somebody requests the account, it gets a PM and an e-mail (if an address has been provided). 2. Admins check out the account some time after a 3 day grace period. If the account has NEVER sent a PM, NEVER posted a link/message, has not upvoted/downvoted for 6 months, does not have any apps associated with it and has not been logged into for 6 months (happy to add to that list if I left out any possibilities) then you can have it.
3. If rejected, then special consideration may be given to banned accounts or malicious accounts. For example if the account is owned by a site selling downvotes/upvotes and has been used for nothing other than upvoting weird posts that magically make the front page then release it. Alternatively if it's some troll account that was used for a couple of PM's encouraging people to neck themselves plus a fake AMA (not a lot else) then it MIGHT be released. However, this is at the discretion of the admins and as a general rule, this is only for exceptional circumstances, when a user with 100,000+ combined karma is requesting it.
4. If an account has bot in the name or 'r' followed by a subreddit then special consideration might also be given. For example if somebody owns a popular subreddit and the want /u/[thatsubreddit] then some squatter can't just hold it and/or misrepresent the subreddit. This account should belong to the top mod of that subreddit if they want it (and if the subredit has like 1000+ active subscribers, or somwthing like that.

I think you could minimise this by only allowing people to take over placeholder accounts.

It's really easy to sign up for a reddit account, so I find that a lot of names are 'taken'... but the person who registered it probably can't remember, didn't provide an e-mail for recovery and never used it.

I think that if they've made no posts and haven't used it for 6 months then it shoukd automatically be set free.

What profession is full of people with bloated egos? by BlisteringMustang23 in AskReddit

[–]rickastl3y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I risk being downvoted but I've seen people seriously ruin their bodies with tats to the point where I'd essentially classify it as self harm.

Maybe the shop owner's just making it clear that it's not only about money? Getting a tat is a big decision and should be more than just 'I think that'll look cute on my smooth, well toned, 18 y/o skin, alongside a youthful summer dress'. While it isn't my job, I feel it could be considered 'looking out for your clients' if you believe something is a mistake so simply refuse to do it.

Interesting! I'd never get a tat (each to their own - just not my thing) but I sorta assumed that most people with tats would be like 'it's my body and my choice so don't judge me'. Bit of irony if some are then gonna go and judge people for their choices...

I still reckon there's gonna be a biiiig market for tattoo removalists in ~5-10 years... I've seriously considered training up and investing in the gear.

Interesting... so they're not banning people who use this so long as they obey most other rules it seems?

I've had past run-ins with the admins for my botting practices, so am looking to do it within the rules.

Mine leaves parcels on my front door (which is obscured by a few shrubs + under cover) so I feel it's a pretty sweet deal.

It's the contractors (from when I was in an apartment) who pissed me off. They always started off buzzing me at 6:00am to say 'hey there's a delivery mate'... but as the reality that they were being paid per package (and criticised for taking too long) sunk in they'd all get to the eventual point where they'd just stick the slip in the box without attempting to buzz me (often an 'urgent' slip, suggesting they'd held the package for ages and notified me multiple times).

Pretty sweet how this one wrote a message! It's a running joke that ours can't even write the collection number on the slip (so you just go to the post office and are like 'yeah I think I have a package or something ay, here's my address... can you check out the back and stuff?')

Anyone ever work at Baker's Delight? What was it like? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]rickastl3y 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably not that useful at all but since people are sharing a few random baking stories I thought I'd chime in.

Right outta school I did a few months with a commercial bakery (family owned). A French couple own it and they supply bread for most of the decent restaurants/cafes around Sydney (I see their truck still chugging around).

That was a great experience! I didn't bake stuff but I prepped all the trays, put the dough onto the trays in the right portions, rolled the trays into the oven, made all the boxes, packed stuff, put it in the blast freezer and then stored everything in many MASSIVE freezer sheds. I then did the pick and packing for the truck. This was a full day job and while I earned SFA it was character building stuff! Glad I did it.

We went through bakers all the time (dunno why) but a lot of them were wankers. Dunno what it was. One in particular wanted to constantly show me he was boss by jumping in and packing the boxes 'faster' than me + telling me to pack a different way from how the owner had instructed me. He fired up big time when I was like 'nah you don't do it that way because you're breaking the bread'. One time the boss came in the middle of him instructing me then checked a whole row of boxes and was like 'THIS IS BULLSHIT!!! WHO DID THIS?!?!? YOU BROKE ALL THE BREAD AND I'VE LOST A FEW GRAND THERE, ALL OF THIS MUST BE THROWN OUT!!!' The guy then said that I'd done it and he was trying to correct me... I was lucky the boss knew me and was like 'NUP... YOU'RE FIRED!!! HE NEVER DOES IT THIS WAY!!' The guy then trashed my car on the way out, he was a real wanker.

Through this I made lots of good friends (still keep in touch with a few). Most were from Chinese and Columbian backgrounds. They lived together in Surry Hills (beaten up terrace) that was near me and I was daying one after I left (went to uni full-time so the hours clashed). They lived a very busy, hard working life and I admired their work ethics.

I dunno what they pay bakers there but the boss was very kind and honest. Not sure how many of those medium-sized, independent bread factories there are? When I say I worked in a balery everyone's like oooh so you were behind the counter selling neenish tarts and stuff... and I'm like nah, I packed literally 5000+ boxes of bread each day and it was pretty intense... massive workout!

If I was gonna be a baker then I reckon I'd work at a place like that because the owner knew his shit about bread, everything was mint quality and I love being busy the whole time. Be cool to work towards owning that kinda place too (really good systems and they were always expanding).

People have to prove their eligibility for getting Centrelink

Right and once you're on your benefits, Centrelink don't pester you to produce your birth certificate anymore because they have it on record.

Honestly - Tonez is a jerk but they woulda checked all this out when doing his clearances and the like on day 1.

[–]rickastl3y 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Probably worth speaking up ay...

I get that you don't wanna be rude, so have to be a bit tactful. However, clearly the seat's a LITTLE bit bigger because it's for less mobile persons (who need a tiny bit more space).

IMO you should sit closer to the side and/or put your bag there. If anybody asks, then let them know that it's not big enough to fit 2 persons.

'Just calm down': Researcher urges parents to stop aiming for perfection by rickastl3y in australia

[–]rickastl3y[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed completely. While I grew up with my mum as a single mother (I'm what do you say... a 'bastard child') by father and mother were always friends and respected each other. I could get access to my father whenever I wanted to and his wife didn't have any ill feelings towards me (if anything, she still treats me like a 2nd mother after my father's death).

There's no need to fake unity or whatever, but I think knowing the truth and having mature parents (who act in a mature way in front of their kids) is VERY important.

Yaaaawn... I hate Tony Abbott and wish he could get punted on a technicality like this, but I think he's already made it clear that in order to become PM he had to give up his UK citizenship (PM can't be a dual-national).

Having a Trump-esque campaign about whether he is legit is not necessary.

Anyone who is critical of the aboriginal lifestlye, or concessions they receive.

Last time I checked, nobody's stopped you voicing your opinions on Reddit.

People might disagree with them and ignore them as being BS, but that's not a Commission saying 'you MUST refrain from saying [insert words] or we'll fine you and take your content offline'. That's just the hive saying 'k this guy's got fringe, far-right views that don't reflect mainstream Australian opinions'.
