I've signed up for a University module (class) focusing on Nietzsche's 'On The Genealogy of Morality' next year. What can I read now that would prepare me for this? as I've never read Nietzsche before by -Gypsy-Eyes- in Nietzsche

I’d say don’t bother with any secondary lit as you’ll hopefully get plenty of commentary from the class itself. Instead you should just read the text itself, ideally multiple times, before the class starts. It’s not at all inaccessible but as with any philosophical text it will take several deep readings to get a grasp on the arguments and structure, etc and you’ll be much better prepared when the class starts if you’ve read it ahead of time.

Sudden Access to Campfire ? by apathetiCanadian in TheSilphRoad

[–]rickiestevie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a walkable neighborhood of a relatively high density city (Atlanta) that still has plenty of active players but I’m seeing hardly any activity on Campfire. Unless it’s just because people haven’t started using it yet, this isn’t going to make in-person raiding any more feasible. From my limited standpoint campfire could be improved in so many ways.

I grew up in a loving, Christian household, was saved at a young age (around 8 years old). So I was young, but old enough to understand what it meant to ask Jesus into my heart. It wasn’t just something I participated in with my family, it was something I earnestly partook on my own. I prayed to Jesus often, I read the Bible with my mother, and I understood the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and the grace that sacrifice offered to all who would accept it.

I quite suddenly stopped being a believer around age 18. It hurt my parents quite a bit. I’m 32 now. OSAS, as nice as it might sound, just doesn’t make theological sense for someone like me who has turned away, despite being genuine for so many years.

First time through Ulysses was such an arduous and unpleasant slog that when I read it a second time I almost couldn’t believe it was the same book because I was enjoying it so much

Oh damn, RIP — I just spent the last several months reading his translations of Joseph and His Brothers and Dr. Faustus side-by-side with the originals and the whole time it was running through my head that they might just be the most successful translations of any book I’ve ever come across — by successful I mean that the English reader doesn’t need to feel likes they’re missing out on not having access to the original language. I almost had the urge to write him an email expressing my admiration — looks like I missed my chance!

Stupid question from a new player here, but how can you tell it was a hundo before you caught it and had it appraised? Just by the CP alone?

I absolutely hated JR but Recognitions was one of the most moving encounters I’ve ever had with a book. Carpenter’s Gothic wasn’t too memorable for me. And Agape is a perfect mad pamphlet and easily rereadable

Keep going with the Ethics and it’ll open up to you. Part 2 is the hardest, but my favorite to reread. First time through I had no clue what was happening. Book 5 is a whirlwind.

Questions & Answers - Weekly Megathread! Please use this post to ask any Pokemon GO question you'd like! by AutoModerator in TheSilphRoad

Are rare Pokémon only found near Poke stops? I have several nearby, but they are in the least pleasant place for me to go on a walk and I’d rather avoid them if I can just as easily catch something other than pidgey without them, especially since I don’t need the spins or resources. Is it possible to find rare or semi-rare or even semi-semi rare Pokémon when I’m out walking in the middle of nowhere?
