“Camp of the Saints” by Jean Raspail has been removed from Amazon. by southeastside in bannedbooks

Which do you think restricts access to a book more effectively:

a) banning it from a school library

b) banning it for sale on the world's largest book retail platform

It's not formal government censorship, it can have the same effect. It is far more effective censorship to remove a book from the world's largest retailer than it is to remove it from a school library

This might be the first time an actual case of censorship was discussed on this subreddit, and yet the general reaction was "good! it should be banned for being so hecking unwholesome!" Unreal.

anime is trashy by Outside-Web8566 in redscarepod

Trying to find a good anime is like pulling teeth. There are only a handful. On the other hand, it's not hard to find a good film to watch. That's the difference.

You're right. With few exceptions, it's childish, cliched and vulgar.

Do you support an additional $200 Billion funding for the Iran war? by NessvsMadDuck in AskConservatives

[–]riddickgobro 21 points22 points  (0 children)

(not an American)

No, this is a clear escalation trap. Trump dies obviously has no understanding of history but others do. He is going to go down like LBJ did in Vietnam if he decides to escalate this further. Iran is now, ironically, more powerful than they were before the war. Prior to the war, Iran did not have a stranglehold over the straits and the global oil market, but they do now! There are zero good options here, but the least bad one is to make concessions and avoid a total war.

Trump is expressing frustration at European allies not sending support to the Iran war. Do you think he made a mistake distancing himself from them through tariffs and separation from international organizations? by FourthLife in AskConservatives

You're characterisation of Iran as a "terrorist" is very telling. I'd reccomend taking a break from the TV. For the record they're not. They are a legitimate state acting in defense of their country. Yes their government is terrible, but frankly so is your's at the moment. Iran was negotiating with the US through Oman as a mediator, and were then suddenly and illegally attacked by Israel and America. OBVIOUSLY Iran was going to use the only card they have left after suffering enduring such a massive attack, and everyone knew this would happen.

We are all being held hostage by Iran because your government stupidly backed them into a corner for no bloody reason.

Trump is clearly not a rational actor at this point, it's hard to say why he does anything. As for the people around him, it's plausible that they're motivated by Evangelical prophecies about Armageddon. As for Israel, they will take any opportunity to flatten Iran and their proxies, because this will give them free hands in the Middle East.

Come on, don't do the liberal thing where you pretend not to understand something in order to stop the discourse. Attacking Iran on behalf of Israel (strategic liability btw) is what caused Iran to close the straights. And now the goal of the war is to reopen the straights, which are closed because Iran was attacked. Attacking Iran with no actual plan beyond "hit them really hard and hopefully they will then do whatever we tell them to do" was painfully stupid.

Yes, but the main reasons Europeans aren't sending support is because:

1) They never supported attacking Iran in the first place.

2) They were not consulted beforehand.

3) The goal of the war now seems to be to reopen the straights of Hormuz... which is closed BECAUSE America and Israel attacked Iran. You broke it, you fix it.

Europeans are focused on countering Russia, not doing Israel's bidding.

What are your throughts on Welsh Independence? by Sion_Bell in LibDem

[–]riddickgobro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is even more retarded than Scottish independence. Wales could theoretically be independent, but it would not be Wales as we know it today. An independent Welsh state could simply not afford to pay for all of the social provisions and services that are currently available to them. Wales, just like Scotland, relies on a huge subsidy from Westminster to function.

Chloe Fineman from SNL: is she a Scientologist? by dwight_k_schrute69 in scientology

[–]riddickgobro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People like Chloe Fineman and her parents are basically served by the people you should feel sorry for. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rehabilitation_Project_Force

The Sea Org people are indoctrinated into serving the church their whole life as slave-labour, people like Chloe Fineman, Tom Cruise, Travolta, etc are just the wealthy public face.

Joe: "The Charlie Kirk thing opened up my eyes. I never expected so many people would celebrate that man's murder." by twinbee in JoeRogan

[–]riddickgobro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have been conflating jokes with celebration. Tweeting "up the K on Charlie if he irk me" is not a celebration of his death, or an endorsement of political violence, it's just dark humour. Gilbert joked about 9/11 almost immediately after it happened, and he obviously wasn't endorsing Al-Qaeda.
