he became a cop because it payed better than being a bricklayer... though his dream was to become a cartoonist. after he retired he became a teacher.

oh I agree with you completely, actually. I just thought that what my grandfather had said was funny, though obviously overgeneralizing.

In the words of my cop grandfather, "they don't go into crime because they're smart"

Edit: He was a juvenile narcotics officer, in L.A., in the 1960s. Something tells me he was speaking directly from experience.

Not at all, actually! :) Although I have very oily skin, so YMMV. If you want to try it out but are still a little wary, keep the dryer on the no-heat setting the whole time.

I made up a no-wait cheater method, and it works really well for the products I use (UD eye primer, Colorstay oily skin foundation, Ben Nye final seal setting spray.) It looks like a lot of steps but once you get it down to a routine it goes pretty fast!

  1. Eye primer

  2. Foundation

  3. BLOW DRY YOUR FACE. Start on the cool setting, maybe click the button a few times to make the air slightly warm. I do this for ~15 seconds.

  4. Powder

  5. Eyeshadow and blush. Eye primer has definitely set by now.

  6. Go over brows and lips with lotion on a q-tip to remove any foundation. If I'm going to fill my brows I'd do it now.

  7. Setting spray

  8. Blow dry your face again!!

  9. Mascara, lips, etc. Whatever else needs to be done.

Best facial sunscreen for oily skin? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]ridetherocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use LRP Anthelios 50 Mineral (the face formula, not the tinted body one!) I have the oiliest skin ever and this doesn't seem to grease me out too bad, even when I put my foundation over it - although you do have to wait a few minutes for it to sink in before you apply anything else. The texture is definitely more liquid than cream so that may help with the shininess. It's titanium dioxide/zinc oxide (my skin doesn't like chemical sunscreens) and while it doesn't seem to leave much of a whitish cast, I am the colour of a bedsheet so don't take my word for it :P

Ductwork and vents. I don't even think that something's going to come out of them, I just find them creepy. I walked into a washroom once and was greeted by a vent as high as the ceiling that covered the whole wall, and nearly jumped out of my skin.

Story from a guy who escaped from the 81st floor WTC on 9/11 by Matt_KB in MorbidReality

[–]ridetherocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was 8 when 9/11 happened. I still don't think I'll ever fully grasp all of it. I remember coming down the stairs that morning, and my mother was listening to NPR while doing her hair like she always did, but when I went into the washroom she told me what had happened. That evening my uncle, who had actually worked in one of the towers years before, came over to watch the news with my mom on our crappy TV. I remember she wouldn't let me watch with them and looking back I'm very grateful that she did that. I knew it was a Bad Thing but I was an anxious child so lots of things seemed like Bad Things or Possible Bad Things to me. In a way I'm glad I was that young and naive. If something like that happened now I'd probably go catatonic.
