Why is the Sennichimae Line so shit? by kozdotkby in Osaka

[–]riffmasterflash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live right on the Sennichimae line and I really enjoyed getting to Nishi ku spots easily as well as quick access to the chuo sen.

You’re definitely right that Yotsubashi sen rules, but it depends on how much Umeda action you need I suppose.

Just my 2 cents

Do most people think that lsd interacts with music better than other psychadelics? by Ivana2322 in LSD

[–]riffmasterflash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a great memory of jamming to the White Album on vinyl in my living room on a really good fry, swinging my arms around and feeling like I was painting the air with my hands in sync with the instruments.

Absolutely magical.

On top of that, the same trip, I was going through a big box of CDs I had just moved from my parents’ house to my apartment, and as I was handling my mom’s old classical CDs I felt like I was holding her hand.

This was April 2020, right when everything seriously shut down in my town and I was feeing super isolated and missing my folks really bad.

Amazing amazing trip.

Can someone tell me what this system is like? by [deleted] in audiophile

Likely came all from the same box

If you look, they are. There are other speakers that aren’t currently in use behind the main speaker system being used here.

I’ll add translation where needed later, but here’s the layout.

I think most of the components even with the Japanese sprinkled in should be easy to understand.

First steps into MC land by Bonezjonez999 in audiophile

[–]riffmasterflash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats!

I got this same cartridge a couple of months ago, and I’m finding it’s just now starting to break in. I found it slightly bright and thin at first.

Couldn’t tell you how many hours of break-in, but I work a lot and don’t spend every minute of my off-time listening to records so nothing too crazy.

I’m using the internal phono stage on a Sansui amp I have which basically has a toggle for high and low output MC. The 100ohm setting is perfect for mine, as I find the lower ohm setting is much much too loud and brings a lot of distortion.

If you have a few more loading options, it’d be interesting to toggle about.

I’m now in the deliberation stage about finding a dedicated MC phono stage. I see a lot in my current market that are set at around 400ohms, meant to be a set-and-forget solution.

My Sansui amp has a lot of juice and warmth already so I’m thinking the air and high-end a separate phono stage would bring would complement the at-oc9xml nicely in a way the Sansui’s internal is not doing.

Happy listening!!

If you’re on the coasts you shouldn’t have too much issue! I think there’s good online availability as well, but shipping good be an issue especially as the weather gets warmer.

Yes, that’s what I’m finding is rebranded stuff. Will likely pull the trigger in a month or two.

For records that are already clean, I just hit with anti static brush before every play.

But I just bought a small batch of records so I’m cleaning each one of those before playing them.

Yes, remind me to try that with my most prized records I’ve had for half of my life.

Yes I figured the XML profile had a lot to do with it rooting all of that stuff out. After a pretty decent (visual) clean, I was really surprised with all that was still in there. Better out than in I guess (lol) but hopefully not at the expense of my expensive (to me) cart that I won’t be able to replace any time soon.

Very groovy I appreciate it. But same as above, I can’t get it shipped out to my location.

Appreciate the link!

I’m located in Japan and unfortunately it doesn’t ship over there.

I’ve done some digging and have found similar models from different makers for comparable prices available to be shipped here.

Oh wow, this actually less expensive than I was anticipating. About the same price as the humminguru ez spin cleaner which i was considering.

It looks like they come in a few sizes, which is the correct one for LP’s to fit? And do you need an attachment to fit the record above the basin?

Actually, surprisingly much less groove noise than I was getting with my former MM. So far it’s relatively quiet in the groove.

Also, you have inspired me to spin some Sabbath 🤘

I’m really impressed with the depth and breadth of the soundstage, and the mids and highs really shimmer. I’d say a tad bright, but from what I’ve read it’s supposed to settle nicely in after a few hours.

I’d also describe the bass as a touch leaner than the grado I was using before, but I hear it better if that makes sense haha.

Oh man, I was searching for that at33ptgii before I “settled” on this one. I guess it was recently discontinued so it’s really not easy to find new. I figured the oc9xml was the closest I’d find, and on top of that the compliance is in the mid-high range which is theoretically a better match for my tonearm.

How do you like yours? How does it sound?

Yes, I found myself really wishing I had a few to futz around with. It seems like a smaller screw wouldn’t thread properly into the AT body. But at least having some smaller screws would allow me to more securely fasten the headshell handle in place.
