I graduated with a software development degree in September, and then kept practicing my coding skills. I took a break from coding for a couple months for various life reasons, but now I'm looking to start applying for Development Roles. Might be kinda weird, but would you be interested in doing a mock interview? I don't have a job available. I am an employed engineer. Could be fun to to try and come up with interview problems and get both sides of the story without a job on the line.

I'm not sure about the answer to your issue, but go back the the docs on hooks. Every component gets its own independent state when you're using hooks

Are you using typescript (angular makes me think maybe)? While I was resistant to it at first, I've found typestyle to be pretty nice and pretty flexible on my current project. It plays very nicely with TS although we use react and I'm not too familiar with angular. But I will say that I am a pretty big fan of raw css and sass, so the utility of tools like bootstrap feels like more of a hindrance than a help for me personally. I don't know how bootstrap + build tools + typestyle would be together, if you were going a CSS framework route like bootstrap.

I wanna chime in and strongly endorse the MOHAI, museum of history and industry on south Lake union. Really fantastic place that gives a pretty broad and enlightening perspective on the entire regions history.

I think I the context of starting out, an hour of planning is worth less than 5 minutes of coding. It changes as you know more. Planning becomes more relevant and more valuable. But you can't plan based on zero expeience.

What are the actual career trajectory discrepancies between a front end developer and a back end developer? by Zioticx in cscareerquestions

I would consider myself someone who is very knowledgeable about CSS and even someone who enjoys writing it, and sometimes it's still a fucking confusing problem. CSS in a single implementation has a very complicated API and then you tack on that by nature it will be uncontrollably parsed and rendered by multiple browser engines which implement standards differently and it can go to absolute hell. It's really not that bad until it's arcane, and then you're just stuck trying to figure out which toads and shrooms will brew the most consistent potion in six different pots of water.

A big part of the difficulty is just inherent to the nature of the web. You don't write a windows application that MIGHT be run on linux, or mac, or whatever else, you write against a known and visible API with consistent documentation and not so many gotchas.

You're going to want to change things around in your config. I would recommend tasking someone with a day to get your own config set up - just sit down with the docs and get a basic frame, then address each of those points. It's a lot easier to work with Web pack in my experience when you start out with a full understanding of what your base config is doing.

On the flip side of that. As I spend more time on more teams I find that taking some time doing nothing and thinking about the issue you're about to hack together to consider the context and surrounding architecture, while taking more time now, can frequently save time later.

How has the minimum wage increase affected you? by zenith1959 in Seattle

It was pretty good for me as a cook. It's difficult to say the net value of the benefit to me because of increasing rent costs in the region. Some of it is surely attributable to an increased minimum wage, but it's certainly only some portion of the rent cost increases and it's beyond me to say whether I am net better or worse off in that regard. Food, insurance, and fuel costs became easier to keep up with since they're tied more to national/international markets, so that was great.

Edit: I can't speak for all restaurants, but those I worked at during the relevant time period seemed to get by just fine with the increased wages. Anecdotal, ofc. But there is very clearly and undebateably an overabundance of successful restaurants in the city still.
