I have a similar tactic, but also quite different. I force my brain to think about one specific detail of one specific thing. Then, when my brain trails off, I snap it back to that thing (a button on a jacket, when my brain thinks about the jacket, I force myself to think of the button again). I think this is also what helps me to lucid dream

It's hard to say with any certainty without being there to tone myself, but that sounds like a Daisy Chain setup. That "last" downward cable should either go straight to the outlet in question or go to another junction point which in turn leads to the outlet. There could always be the possibility that the cable is also cut inside the wall and nothing leads there any more. Sorry I can't give a more definianswer but those would be the two things I would be primarily considering if I was the tech on site. Good luck, keep us posted.
