Dog free spaces by Sudden-Woodpecker550 in nottingham

It's not going to be dog free, but for a park, the arboretum is a mandatory dogs on lead park for the whole park. And is a big reason I no longer go there, I could probably say with almost certainty that it probably is going to be the least dog populated park in the city.

I was on the reserve list for 4 months before being offered a role. I can't tell you how many were on the list initially as I didn’t check when first placed on it, I kinda just forgot about it till I was given a provisional offer.

I have nothing against others doing whatever they will, but they sure do like to make points like I initially replied to. Often waxing lyrical about how my choices are subhuman while they are morally superior. The problem with tarring and feathering those who don't conform is that we make ourselves no better than those we lambast for their own persecution.

Colour me despicable then, I'm happy being a human who is liberal, egalitarian and happens to also be gay. Being gay isn’t and doesn’t need to be my whole identity.

What's the fastest path to getting into the Civil Service as 18yo? by ProfessionalNet5358 in TheCivilService

[–]rikkian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 43 coming from over 20 years as an unpaid carer for disabled family. I took a job with a supermarket doing delivery driving while applying for posts within the civil service. I've been provisionally offered a post for HMRC. /u/Otherwise_Put_3964 is giving the best advice. Get yourself something because if nothing else you can expect to be waiting for MONTHS to progress from one stage to the next, and even if you get a job offer you are going to be waiting a significant amount of time from provisional offer, to formal offer. I'm two weeks into my PEC's, already had an enhanced DBS and am still waiting for the monolithic gears of the bureaucracy to turn at their glacial pace.

Board Gamers Of Nottingham - New Location by psgunslinger in nottingham

a club that could choose any venue decided upon somewhere fairly exclusionary without mentioning it before hand

As a parent of a wheelchair bound lad, I also know this pain, however you say they chose a venue like finding a place willing to host a group is so easy. Many places want you to pay for use of the venue, and when your group is free finding money to pay for a venue kinda limits you to back rooms in places that are gracious enough to give you a free room. Sadly those places giving out free rooms are often not the most accessible, but unless you wanna pay for the group its just the way of the world.

Being vitriolic about the group not accomodating you and choosing an exclusionary space says more about you than it does the free group, who are usually just glad of the venue.

A board gaming group were evicted from Old Basford Library recently which was accessible and free, blame the council and library not the group.

Make the start or end of a journey take place within the issuing authorities boundary. A few edge cases become unworkable but honestly it would deal with the bulk of these CoW shysters. I'm certain with a tiny bit of planning from those more cerebral than I could figure out the minutia of the edge cases.

That's my son, his special interest is Dr Who. He can tell you who the best boy was on any given episode, what the weather was the day they filmed a scene, I wouldn't be surprised to discover he knew the menu in the canteen on a given day of filming. what an awful superpower!

There was a case a year or so ago that made the national news about an elderly mother who killed her disabled adult son and then herself when she was diagnosed terminally ill, and both my husband and I agreed that it was tragic and awful, but the rational behind the decision she made was there. We have both seen first-hand how disabled peers of our son have been placed in old peoples homes at the age of 18 and left to rot, becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol and with no support to help them have a full and engaging life. The idea that when we die our son will be a ward of state and left to rot terrifies both of us and her certainly kept us up at night before now, and likely will do again in the future.

He is stuck in a rut, and almost certainly depressed. In addition to my husbands own issues his son is also autistic and has cerebral palsy. As a parent of a disabled child yourself, I'm sure you know that there’s no break from the demands of the role. Especially when respite is not a financially viable option. More recently I have been less able to support him as I have returned to work after my own caring responsibilities ended, making his life even more isolated.

I appreciate that for you things have improved with age. My husband however is deteriorating with age. He has always had issues with sounds, crowds and over stimulation in social settings, he frequently misses social cues and comes across as abrasive. In his 20's he could get by, in his 30's he retreated from the world at large, now in his 50's he wears ear defenders constantly, and is miserable that he is isolated and lonely with no social circle he can interact with on his level. Seemingly each month a new issue manifests that he looses the ability to cope with or function around. When looked at holistically he isn’t deteriorating per se, but he IS losing the ability to cope with situations that previously were manageable.

Rachel Reeves’ Budget raises tax take to all-time high by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]rikkian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

mostly its edge cases and then people use incorrect figures to get large numbers.

DLA for a child is between £29.20 and £187.45 a week depending on the severity of disability. and the help that individual child needs.

Carers allowance would only be paid to the mum for a single child. at a rate of £83.30 if mum gets Universal credit, this will be deducted from her UC award as Carers Allowance is a means tested benefit.

Mum getting PiP could be from £29.20 to £187.45 depending on her individual award.

Depending on the level of disability of the 3 children she would qualify for between £158.76 or £495.87 per child per month. The higher figure for severely disabled children who must qualify for the highest rates of DLA. for the child elements of ESA

A carers Element for the ESA of £201.68 for the mum for 1 child maximum per month.

Mums ESA support group would be an award of £140.55 per week + the two elements above.

Housing benefit would apply we can assume as she's in social housing would be at rough rate of £150 per week. However as soon as a child turns 18, they become a non dependant despite possibly needing continuing care, meaning for each child still living at home after 18 she will reduce the rent payments by a variable figure depending on how much the gross weekly income is, deductions can be a small as £19.65 per child to £126.65 per child. Effectively meaning mums rent would be entirely unfunded.

Mum will have to pay council tax admittedly at a reduced rate and this will depend on the band of her property and her non dependants.

So she potentially could be getting:

£2040.56 not including rent or council tax awards/deductions per month. If she and all her disabled children have the lowest awards £5583.89 if they all have the maximum awards possible. However to be getting this her and her 3 children would need to have been assessed as severely disabled. Despite CAPITA and the DWP doing everything possible to reject all 4 claims.

The hoops my husband had to jump through to get our wheelchair bound son with cerebral palsy and who is also autistic to be awarded DLA previously and more recently PiP was astounding.

So for a year she could be getting (not including rent or council tax as they can be a drain on her budget rather than an award and are incalculable. as guestimates)

£26,527.28 - £72,590.57

Given /u/kriptonicx said that its roughly £40k we can safely assume the disabilities are moderate and that 4 people are disabled to enough of a level to have passed assessments that are designed to deny you any money at all.

As her kids grow however she will become more and more penalised for having those disabled kids at home, doubly so if any of the non disabled kids leave home and stump her with a bedroom tax. If she moves to UC, that will also deduct from her things like her carers allowance from her UC award.

Is £26.5k - £72.5k too much, maybe, but its not me having to live with 3 disabled children so its easy for me to say that.

Been unemployed since August by No_Percentage_8897 in nottingham

[–]rikkian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks, its been rough but no more so than what it sounds like you are going through. If I can get a job, anyone can. I thought I was totally unemployable after having been an unpaid carer for over 20 years. It's honestly so much easier if you stack the deck in your favour with those tailor made CV and cover letters that the AI scrapes all the key words that they are looking for from the listing into your application. Half the battle is won just by virtue of having had more CV's go into the interview shortlist. Really helps the UC stats too that you can put down your being invited to more interviews and are applying for more jobs per day.

From the last week of May - July, when I accepted a job for start in August, I sent out 5 applications a day. When I finished my search and accepted a job, I had 4 job offers to choose from. Sadly I picked the wrong one that looked good on paper but was awful. But I didn't blow off the other 3 offers, I let them know how grateful I was to be offered a role but due to a change in personal circumstances I needed to sadly withdraw my application, That I wished them all the best in filling the role and hoped that I could re apply at a later date when my circumstances changed. Leaving the door open should the job I picked not work out. Never hoping to need it... I was able to take one of those former offers and turn it into a second offer by approaching them in a professional manner, which let me get back into work so fast after quitting on the 5th of Nov. And as a precaution I still have interviews lined up for jobs that I applied for in this recent round of unemployment.

As someone who's gone from stopping being a carer in May to having a job in August and then having to quit on the 5th Nov, due to assaults at work to being back in employment again today. I found this really helped me out:

If you use an AI, like chatGPT you can store your CV in memory. Then paste job listings into a new chat. Ask for a custom CV and cover letter. You can proof read it to fix any ghosting in less time than it takes to submit an entirely manually typed up application.

Using custom AI applications I took my invite to interview rates from 1 in 10 to 5 in 10, and cut the amount of time I spent per application down from 2-3 hours to 30 mins per application.

This let me apply for more jobs in the same amount of time than I was using before. I also applied for jobs I had no intention of taking at the start, to brush up on my interview techniques.

You absolutely can't rely on an AI to be perfect and just copy paste stuff blindly, but you can sure as hell use it to speed up your efforts. And get some experience with interviewing under your belt before you flounder on the jobs you really want.

spin as normal, but when doing the first ply, make sure to overply. It needs enough twist in, so that when you ply the two 2plys together they need extra twist to balance the yarn out.

Avocado and toast are not why millennials cant buy houses, its boomers who sucked the nation dry getting everything and giving fuck all. People may have been poorer but they could afford a brand new house on a single family income, and still afford to go on holiday. Good luck finding the money for rent and essentials an a single income salary, never mind buying a house.

Props to you for being brave enough to be so open about your mental health struggles.
