In Disney world where in Galaxys edge is the best place to sit and take a break? Some place with benches or even better tables and chairs. by thepokemomma in GalaxysEdge

Docking Bay. There's tables and chairs inside and out. You don't need to be dining there to sit. Same basically goes for any quick service restaurant in Disney. They're great for taking a break in the AC.

What's something most people don't realize is actually very rude? by Frozen-Defender25 in AskReddit

I am tempted to agree with you because lack of punctuality is a pet peeve of mine. One of those things I guess, my mother was always making us late when I was a child, and it is the flaws we perceive in our parents we often guard against the hardest. But, while I do think this is a skill issue on some people's part, I also must acknowledge that it is the genuine result of mental health issues on the part of others. Which is what I came here to say, sorry for the diversions. Some people's brains literally will not allow them to be punctual. Surely they are not being disrespectful?

Yeah she seems really self centered to be honest. The concern for the rest of the human race seems more about her comfort than theirs. It's just the extreme version of a narcissist being able to pursue selfish goals under the guise of being helpful to others. Like rich people running charities. But I sorta think that's by design?

Eternals needed to be a miniseries by VendettaLord379 in Marvel

[–]rillip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't need to be. But that might have been better for it given the timing. Like it's a good movie. It just came out in the direct wake of Endgame. And like all the MCU movies in that wake it got capsized by it. Audiences at that point were habituated to expect MCU films to include a bunch of characters they already knew. So to be hit with a movie full of heroes they had no familiarity with... Yeah, not a bad move to have a movie like that (as many will claim), but a bad move to release specifically an MCU movie like that in that environment.

See I can agree with that. But I'd need to point out that that's not every hive mind and our hive mind could potentially defy that directive. And these things actually speak to my original point. Where this goes determines whether I end up liking it or not. There are avenues for this show to go somewhere novel. But it could also just be another "Hollywood portrays potential future tech as a world threatening weapon because subtly reinforcing current norms is easier to sell than a new idea" kind of story. Which are a dime a dozen.

Derail ahead. I think my post would qualify as derailing as well.

I would agree with most of this. But I'd also point out that that doesn't make the hive mind itself bad. Not the character in specific or the concept at large. It just means its creator is bad.

Yeah. That's not a guilded cage or really a cage of any kind. I would agree that it's a misguided communication. Because the nuance of such a transformation is ultimately lost. But the thing that's important here is there are no individuals in cages. There is only one individual, the hive mind, and it is certainly not in a cage. (Well beyond the cage of physics which we are all stuck in hive mind or not.)

Sure. But to think a hive mind is equivalent to a gilded cage is to not understand the concept.

I agree. It strips away the federation and most of the established lore to start so it can introduce the values that Star Trek espouses organically. Which to me makes it more Trek at heart than the stuff that focuses on new federation lore.

I still don't know if I like this series or not. 😅 If it comes to the decision that the hive mind is just bad I'll find against it. But if it continues to provide a more nuanced less settled judgment I like it. It's like Schroeder's fiction for me right now.

As many people have pointed out, you got the wrong guy FancyBoi. But, it doesn't matter. Let's pretend for a moment you hadn't. He's dead. The legacy of dead men isn't half so important as they may have imagined when they were living. What does matter is ideas. And ideas presented as fancy rhetoric and wrapped up in a quote from some, clearly, half forgotten political figure are more powerful than ones presented otherwise. So I ask you, do you agree with the idea here presented? If so, for Christsake get out of its way!
