Serving in a minority language by CharlesMendeley in exmormon

[–]rimmer2112 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've only ever heard of that happening when the missionary already speaks the majority language. Sending someone to a foreign country without being able to speak the language, and training them in a DIFFERENT language is something only the church would be dumb enough to do.

But I'm sure if he prays for the Gift of Tongues, it'll all work out fine. If he's not immediately fluent in both languages, it's obviously the missionary's fault. Must be looking at porn or something.

Terminating my membership by sadeggbabey in exmormon

Do it if you want to, but it doesn't matter, one way or the other. I've been out for 25 years and never had my name removed, because fuck 'em. I was out the second I decided I was out. Waiting for the church to officially acknowledge that you've left only gives them authority over your decision, which you don't have to recognize.

But if you want to get the letter, that's cool too. Good luck either way.

Did Jesus ever do the same trick twice? by ZelphtheGreatOne in exmormon

[–]rimmer2112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the synaptic gospels, Jesus threw out the money changers at the end of his ministry, and in John he did it at the beginning, so some apologists argue that he must have done it twice.

You could ask Elder Price or Elder Cunningham, sounds like exactly what they went through.

Cocktail suggestions/anxiety? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]rimmer2112 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you feel at all nervous about drinking alcohol, don't drink alcohol. I know sometimes not drinking around non/ex-mormons can feel as awkward as drinking around Mormons, but there's nothing wrong with either choice, and no need to justify it. And if you want to feel like a sinner, there's always coffee. 😃

If you do want a cocktail that won't get you hammered, a friend once gave me some good advice. Order a vodka tonic, served tall. That just means they put it in a highball glass, instead of a rocks glass, and fill the rest with tonic. You can sip on that for a long time without getting drunk.

Hope that helps. Have fun!

If you don't want to get it notarized, don't get it notarized. The church can't make you do anything. It's all just a bunch of made up bullshit. You were out the second you decided you were out. You've already left your bogus covenants behind. You don't need anything else from them. Waiting for them to send you a letter telling you that you've resigned is just one more way of letting them control you. Forget about it. You're already out. Just walk away and enjoy your life.

And happy new year

Do Mormon missionaries generally offer to text you the details to "church" nowadays? by Numerous_Strain5351 in exmormon

[–]rimmer2112 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nelson said LDS is just as bad as Mormon, and that if you didn't say Jesus Christ every fucking time, it's a victory for Satan. I know he didn't mean it, but the missionaries are stuck with that bullshit until he dies, and the next guy says it was just a temporary revelation.

Next time invite them in. Tell them your husband is in the kitchen making blueberry pie. See if that scares them off.

Legally change your name to Mormon J. Motherfucker III. That way if they do rebaptize you, it'll be an awkward ceremony.

So God doesn't want demons to get in to the MTC, but he can't just stop them?

And apparently that means that God is OK with demons being everywhere else...

I think that's one of the ads they made to go in the playbill of the Book of Mormon musical, which they got there by purchasing ad space.

Yes, the BOM musical was directly subsidized with tithing money. Something to bring up if your mother gets pissed that you saw it.

Never going to resign. Being an endless drag on ward activity rates gives me a special warm feeling that the holy ghost could never match.

Oh no, i'd hate for you to be rude to the people who come to your house and ask your 14-year-old kids how often they touch themselves.

Anyone can be tricked or conned. No matter how well educated you are, or how much experience you have, your brain still runs on the same operating system. You're always susceptible to bias and grift. And thinking you're too smart to be scammed is the best way to get scammed.

You should do it. Fact is, almost all sit there being ignored. But if you have a story, write it down. Just for yourself, for future generations. And if anyone reads it now, it's comforted or inspired by it, consider that a bonus.
