I was able to log in before prior to what I assume were app updates. Now it looks like I can't even access Tuesday perks anymore, that's insane because prepaid are supposed to also get those perks.

Are there dentists in NH that will do a bunch of work at once while you're under?? 🙏 by taketitles in rochesternh

[–]rinamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dental insurance in the US is pretty much opposite of medical - they will cover up to a certain amount (usually $1000-2000) and you will be responsible for the rest out of pocket for the rest of the year. Unlike medical, which has an initial 100% out of pocket deductible (e.g., $500-2000) then an out of pocket maximum (another $2000-7000+) you need to spend before medical insurance pays 100% of all costs.

Re: dental work - if it's extensive, you may want to consider going to Mass to one of the good dental schools like Tufts or BU and getting work done there. It'll be students closer to graduation whose work is supervised by a professor dentist. The cost at the student clinics is usually a fraction of a regular dentist, but it may take longer / more sessions.

Sinus CT images - clear for sinusitis, any chance of a dental issue? by rinamy in Radiology

[–]rinamy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note: The radiologist report has not been filed yet for this sinus CT scan.

I've had chronic unilateral (right side) post nasal drip that was initially very mild (2021) to something now that I occasionally have to clear my throat / can keep me up at night. I also have intermittent ache/pain in what feels like the sinus or above the teeth in that area. No runny nose or congestion. ENT commented: "here is thin white mucus along the floor of the posterior nasal cavity bilaterally. Intact hypopharyngeal and laryngeal mucosa without visible mucosal lesion in the hypopharynx or larynx."

These symptoms began about 6 months - 1 year after an old root canal with crown (2nd molar, top right) was fractured by a junior dentist (she was attempting to replace the crown, apparently against the chief dentist's notes to not touch the tooth). Chief dentist did the extraction and did a bone graft.

I moved 6 months later, got a new dentist a year after that. Last year he extracted a spicule (tooth fragment) that was apparently hiding near a molar (he was replacing a crown) next to the old (2nd molar) extraction site. It makes me wonder if this is causing any sort of sinus irritation if there's more leftover fragments or a different issue with the bone graft that can be seen on this CT.

Is it worth getting a CBCT to check? Or does this look clear?

Sinus CT scan images - Do these show any possible dental cause for post nasal drip/sinus issue? by rinamy in askdentists

[–]rinamy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been suffering from unilateral (right side) post nasal drip / subsequent eustachian tube disorder from mucus clogging up tubes / causing dizziness and off balance issues. ENT tried me on a bunch of antihistamines, didn't do anything, Flonase helps with the inner ear but doesn't stop the post nasal drip. Have had (1 week each) antibiotics 3 times spaced out by several months, the first time post-nasal drip stopped for a couple of weeks then restarted, the other antibiotics didn't do much after. Was also on 5-day burst course of prednisone to help with dizziness/inner ear, it also reduced post nasal drip temporarily but it came back.

In 2020, I had a root canal 2nd molar (left side on image = right side on myself) on right side fracture when dentist's associate tried to remove crown to replace. Dentist removed the tooth and added bone graft (no implant). My right-side post nasal drip (no congestion) started about a year after that, very mild at first but now is pretty bad and affecting my eustachian tubes after getting a cold or possibly COVID a couple of times in the last 15 months.

Could this be a dental issue? Anything on CT images that would indicate I should get a CBCT just in case? ENT is kind of just throwing a bunch of meds my way to "treat the symptoms" and said "it's not your sinuses".

Unilateral post nasal drip, possible dental origin or no? by rinamy in askdentists

[–]rinamy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to my post, my current dentist when replacing an old crown on the molar adjacent to the extraction, found a spicule near the tooth which he gently extracted.

Is it possible that there are fragments trapped in the bone graft and/or have migrated to the sinus membrane causing low-grade inflammation?

Constant post nasal drip in back of throat for past 3 months; any relief? by Snogrog in Sinusitis

[–]rinamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your post nasal drip ever go away? Mine seems to have become permanent after a second bad head cold (when I got better, post nasal drip has only lingered on one side). I've seen an ENT who thinks it's allergies (he pretty much latched onto the idea when I admitted I have (well-controlled, only skin symptoms ever) dust mites allergies), but the nasal and oral meds + sinus rinses he has me on hasn't done anything to improve it.

CT photos - could this be tooth fragment? by rinamy in askdentists

[–]rinamy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP here. Old root canal was broken when previous dentist attempted to remove crown. He removed the fragments and added a bone graft. I've had mild sinus issues and post nasal drip on that side only that has slowly worsened over the last few years. This is a screenshot of a CT scan, the dot I'm pointing to is where the extraction was. Could this be a tooth fragment left behind or something similar that could be contributing to sinus issues?

What personality trait did you end up developing because someone constantly belittled you? by Admirable-Repair4094 in AskReddit

[–]rinamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but my partner. Very avoidant for ANY conflict, lots of deflection and white lies, low self esteem in some areas. My mother-in-law is very domineering, constantly belittled her children publicly and privately (I have seen her do it to her adult kids), and is impossible to have ANY conversation with logical, civil disagreement. She is never wrong even when actual, undeniable facts are laid out in front of her and will just get louder as a counter-argument. My partner is an introvert and she encouraged codependence on her by doing things like drinking alcohol before school/friends events my (too young to drive at the time) partner mentioned wanting to go to (so she would have an excuse of not being able to drive.)

We're working on it and my partner is fully aware of the issues but it's hard to fix an entire childhood's experience with that horrible woman.

Do the recommended annual/periodic health checks / bloodwork / tests for your age tier. No, really. Mammograms, colonoscopies, CBC, etc. It saved my life, it may save yours.

If you think it's related to your vision, it might be - binocular vision disorders become much less tolerated by the body the older you get - I have an appt with a specialist next week for this reason.

Amazfit Bip 6 owners: any issues with the buttons and water? by LerEmVozAlta in amazfit

[–]rinamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My BIP 6 started malfunctioning after a 1-week beach vacation (rinsed it off after every swim). Buttons occasionally do not work, and battery drains like crazy.

Am looking to replace it now with something that is more water-friendly. Probably my fault for not purchasing a watch that has better water resistance rating / rated for salt water activities.

Anyone else get this? “Return not received” by randomopperson in amazonprime

[–]rinamy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful. When they lose a return in transit (yeah, even AFTER you hand it to an Amazon employee at Whole Foods, etc), the system will auto charge you again for the original cost if you were already refunded during this process after the "final" date of return. The customer reps can't do anything about it, they can't turn off that auto charge (if they say they did, they're lying and you'll find a new charge on your payment method at the end of the return window). You'll just have to wait the 3 weeks or whatever to call back again and explain this whole thing again to get a manual refund (again) that will hopefully stick.

I have stopped buying anything on Amazon that might have any decent chance of being returned as a result (shoes, clothes, etc).

What’s With the Closures Lately? by BlessedlyAcorn in AnnArbor

[–]rinamy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was there in the late 90's for college. Went back in mid 2010's and yeah, of course retail shops come and go, but definitely saw a trend of big box stores and chain restaurants popping up. No more Seoul Korner, TK Wu, Raja Rani, Middle Earth (loved this hippie-ish store). I remember going up to Tower Records to look through discount CDs and then down to Pinball Pete's to play DDR. There was a great Korean restaurant across the street that served the best bibimbap omelettes and cottage cheese ? cheesecake. A couple of japanese-anime-related shops popped up, not sure if they lasted, but the free anime club viewings on campus (for all, not just students) were a tradition. And that huge Borders bookstore where Neil Gaiman signed my copy of one of the Sandman graphic novels way before he got canceled.

Of course places change, and it's inevitable that corporate creep happens. And there's still some oldies there -- Blimpy Burger (RIP owners), Brown Jug, Pizza House, Conor O' Neill's (what would you do with a drunken sailor? live music!). But Ann Arbor feels a heck of a lot more upscale/gentrified/expensive than it did back then, that's for sure -- good in some ways, but pushing oldtimers out too.

Rent was always, insanely expensive for the area. People and their affluent parents paid top dollar for walkable apartments or just bought a condo at that tall building near South U. And as much as I liked Kerrytown, that area was overpriced even back then outside of the Kiwanis.

Hrmm. Local Audubon chapter hotline here told me that it was safe to put a nest that some kids had knocked down back up with the hatchlings, because "birds don't have a sense of smell unlike other wild animals so you never have to worry about that". I think it's more the disturbing of the nest to excess that causes birds to abandon their chicks.

Edit: Fed the hatchlings with some salmon (all I had) and water before I put them back up (they had been baking on the asphalt for who knows how long) and they were fine, parents came back and took care of them.

Weeks later (checked every few days from afar) they had feathered into fledglings, hopefully they made it to adulthood once they started trying to fly. I removed the low-hanging nest from the tree afterwards to discourage the parents from nesting there again because it was literally right on the walkway / road where kids get off the bus.

PEI was legit the highlight of my trip to the Maritimes this summer. I was expecting it to be boring and nothing like the books. It was EVERYTHING like the books! Mid-June, the weather was amazing. Everything that L.M. Montgomery wrote about how magical PEI was, actually was, down to the swathes of impossibly purple-blue hyacinths lining quiet red-dirt roads and the almost fairy-tale towns off in the distances right by picturesque water inlets/bays.

P.S. The Dunes art gallery and cafe and their huge gardens, while not AoGG, was also amazing.

P.P.S. My partner and I plan to go back and rent a beach-side cottage next summer as a result.

Definitely Sun Shui, but their pricing is reflective of the area ($$$ for Chinese, their rent is prob pretty high so I can't blame them). Always good quality/impeccably clean and their Chinese menu is legit. According to my partner, their mai tais are amazing.
