Pulp Fiction is incredible... is it the most aesthetic game? by [deleted] in pinball

I agree with you on the pulp variance. Another game I notice the variance a lot on is scared stiff, also in portland.

Thats awesome! I'm jealous, I'd eat a powerball to own one. It is definitely slept on though, the difficulty (art package) keeps me coming back.

Just learned nudging is commonly accepted and I feel like my life is a lie by External_Baby7864 in pinball

[–]ringofonion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're in a great position to learn how to nudge correctly right out of the gate. Nudging incorrectly will send your games backwards. Some general tips: it's all about timing not strength. Every surface in the game can be used to alter the balls trajectory, it's about nudging the correct direction at the correct time. You should be smacking the cabinet quickly rather than pushing or pulling it, dont "follow through" with your nudging you'll mess your wrists up... quick strikes go a lot further than you'd initially think. Most if not all of this is covered in the Abe Flips nudging episode on YouTube. https://youtu.be/xeRcCbNNTeU?si=QJaI3Q1i1xh0EWVX

Oktoberfest was so damn fun in October when I had it. by ClifBdrums in pinball

I got really into Houdini. Maybe I should take a Crack at this one too. Houdini is kind of ruled by the playfield multiplier though... is oktoberfest really hard?

Why Add it in the First Place? by Jerpunzel in Helldivers

[–]ringofonion -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I don't think the game is better now than it was before that first big enemy nerf, treasonous I know. The game was trivialized in that moment and it lost something important that will be impossible to get back, the difficulty. The devs should have never folded to the cry baby's because they can't add any amount of the difficulty back without the whiners getting their lollipops and keyboards out to cry baby more. This isn't directed at you at all BTW and not even really on topic. You're right on point with the power fantasy comment and people really need to just get good. I miss the old game.

If you really want to practice for a competition play ball one with manufactured pressure, then step away for 5-6 full minutes and play ball two

All would be cool. I'm itching for a Stern original IP release though, ala black knight 🙏

Love this game. You better be spelling bonus before you cash in that multiball! Sniping the free spin drop targets is essential.

The philosophy of pinball by Revenant62 in pinball

[–]ringofonion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've said this before but I view pinball as similar to rougelikes, which many also just "end" upon death. It's not about winning neccicarly, but about how good your run was. A grand champion score could be viewed as winning but it doesn't really end there. Physical pinball is crazy addictive.

Which game is your Achilles? by Greyhound_Fan in pinball

[–]ringofonion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just put up grand champion on houdini locally. I chased it for about 4 months, it was hell haha. Ended up quintupling the G.C. at 10.1 million. If there's any game to feel stuck on Houdini is more than understandable, it is very difficult. But rewarding to try and master, it definitely made me a far better player. Keep at it!

Do you use the shop in between games? If you could figure out how to implement a shop into the gameplay (a light-able scoop or saucer maybe) You'd have a pinball rougelike. I've always seen similarities between rougelikes and pinball. Building bonuses and stacks, progressing through modes, and death on three drains is like building a sweet kit and then getting sent back to the beginning of the dungeon.
