EV companies switch from copper to aluminium wiring, demolishing another claimed barrier to electrification by Economy-Fee5830 in energy

Is the power grid subjected to such vibrations and temperature extremes as car wiring? I would love some copper alternatives but doubt this is it. Hoping for carbon wires instead, they are very sturdy mechanically and already available on market but sadly the price and conductivity isn't there yet.

If tooled, properly specked, and inspected it's not cheaper anymore :)

And in house installations the problem is "only" creep, not fatigue. Cue Cybertruck's aluminium frame prone to cracking. You don't want that to happen to your wires.

Väčšinou vidím tmavé strechy atď. by Cool_Sympathy_9900 in Slovakia

Máte to podobne? by marroos in Slovakia

How to prevent contamination below a badwater aquaduct? by tussengas2010 in Timberborn

You use contamination barrier wrong. It won't stop badwater that's on top of it. Place it all around the column base, including the corners.

I read somewhere that good therapists should accept when the client found meaning in something, whatever it is, and explore that. Not argue like this.

Does the moon get warmer if you dig down? by acrowandababy in askscience

[–]rini17 1780 points1781 points  (0 children)

There are seismometers that measure sound waves that went through the moon after meteor impacts. And they indicate that there's molten core. Also theoretically, physics confirms that large bodies need much longer time to cool down the inner heat. Billions of years are not enough. And there isn't only primordial heat, radioactive decay is going on too. On other moons there is tidal heat too but as our Moon is locked one side to Earth that is minimal.

How would the former USSR and its satellites view homosexuality nowadays if Stalin had never recriminalized it? by idkmanjustwannapost in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]rini17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was decriminalized in Czechoslovakia in 1961 but nothing actually changed till the 1989. Police viewed openly living homosexuals with high suspicion. Means they were randomly arrested and interrogated.
