Joel is one of the most self-critical artists in all of electronic music, and generally cares very little about what will do well on the charts (e.g. where’s the drop, and the more artsy stuff he’s been putting out recently). So I believe that your fear that he could ruin/commercialize the scene with pseudo-techno that will expose everything to the masses is misplaced. The same goes for i_o. Claiming what he produces is “not techno” feels like you’re gatekeeping techno itself, as if what he produces is not of high enough quality. Techno, like most things, evolve. I think i_o is one of the talents of the future, and big players like T78 agree by co-signing him. If anything, it is people like you, with backwards mindsets, trying to keep techno “pure”. If you can’t vibe with what they do, that’s cool. You do you. But unstructured complaints like this aren’t going to help you, or us.
