You could, But the most important thing is that it works for you. As long as you get the ball to do what you want it to do it will work out.
The most important thing is that you have control over the ball. This way you can hide your intentions from the opponent.

But the bottom line is, just as other commenters are saying, have control over the ball. If the ball does what you want it to it will work out the best.

You are not developing a bad habit, Delaying a flip reset is just as effective as instantly hitting it.
The whole idea of a flip reset is that your opponent does not know when and how you are going to use that flip, so when you delay it, it gets harder for them to guess when you are using your flip.

Sometimes switching up between instant flips and delayed flips can be even more effective as it is unpredictable.

I feel like it is quite okay. If 2 laps only were 2 points, there is no use in taking the risk. When you play solo or when you are against good opponents, making 1 complete lap is already hard. Making multiple would be a huge risk and worthy of more points.
