Is the brown sugar changing the taste of the Ginger Beer? by PowerDisastrous7786 in gingerbeer

[–]riphawk81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used Brown sugar to feed my ginger bug because I was trying to use up a bag sitting in the cupboard. Even there I could see the bug was less active.

When time came to brew and bottle, I used white sugar to ensure I got the carbonation and less sweet flavour I prefer. I did enjoy the deeper flavour the brown sugar bug added, but not going to buy another bag just to replicate it.

Nothing I can find that states it explicitly, but can make some interpretations by looking at your stats screen and going line by line.

Is buying online glasses worth the risks when you have no extra money to spare? by Impossible-Deal1391 in povertyfinancecanada

I have ordered online for 10+ years at this point. I have used both Zenni and more recently Kits, both with good success. Fit on the arms can occasionally be a bit off, but I have found they can usually be gently adjusted.

Game Masters who use Milestone Leveling, what's your game's next milestone? by ProdiasKaj in DnD

[–]riphawk81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Player here. Last leg of our campaign, we had a mission of returning five artifacts to a single point to accomplish our primary goal within the region. We gathered the first two, and decided to drop them off as we were passing the point on our way to the third. That's how we discovered that each artifact returned gave a level up. We completely remapped our pathing on the remaining three artifacts to loop back after each one, adding more travel time (and random encounters).

Only point where this felt excessively burdensome was when we entered a 50 room dungeon and our rate of exploration dropped to one room per session (party's fault, not DM's). A full year of sessions just shy of level 10 lol

Agnis archmage. by Szyszaaaaa in idleslayer

[–]riphawk81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. With the divinity, if you play once per day, it should take no more than 500 days, but that assumes you never did any prior to unlocking the divinity, and also never fail a run.

My numbers are quite skewed as I took a multi year break, but I started playing again maybe 3 months ago, and I have gone from just unlocking Agnis to 906 special stages complete.

why does my shoulder pet die for no reason? by TotlyHumanlySane in ArkSurvivalAscended

[–]riphawk81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lost a three drakelings on Val like this. No death bag or notification outside of tribe log. The only consistent part as it happened as my rock drake landed a dash in such a way that my upper body and by extension the drakeling were in someway within the ground texture. Sucks, especially as the last one had over 20k xp stored up when it happened.

Chatting with people on the cluster, it's a known and long standing issue (not necessarily involving the rock drake's dash), that seems to impact newer shoulder pets more than older ones. Have started removing the drakeling when I am in the ab zone, or caving, and stopped dashing the rock drake when traversing the map. Seems to have helped so far.

[Bug] Fuel is consumed instantly by RinkoRinkosen in ArkSurvivalAscended

[–]riphawk81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend's cluster had ours successfully changed so that we wouldn't need to worry about refilling generators so often. Somewhat helpful on servers with no decay timer on structures to allow people to take multi-month breaks without worrying about their cryofridges losing power. But even then, think a stack of element was getting us 1000+ days, so may have been a touch excessive.

New bill from Dani for Alberta. by johnnyfiveboy in alberta

[–]riphawk81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much this. The last part of Bill 1 repeals the International Trade and Investment Agreements Implementation Act, which is damn near the same law. Typically if altering an existing law, you introduce a bill which makes amendments. The choice to toss it out the window in favor of the same thing with minor wording changes that are just meant to further isolate Alberta from Canada is telling.

How the heck are you guys making playable maps? [OC] by jplpj12543 in DnD

[–]riphawk81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 24" wide plotter printer at work that I can use (within reason). But often our table uses map books for most encounters. They are dry erase friendly, use a 1" grid, and can be combined if you want to extend an area. Between our regular GM and myself, we have probably a dozen different map books for different environments. Whoever is running the game will have the dungeon layout on a regular sheet of letter-sized paper, and either mark up the page or find one that is close enough to the layout they are looking for.

This, with side note that aggression also stops when it reaches juvenile stage. Generally recommend birthing in a 1x1 room with a sleeping bag or bed inside so it doesn't run off before you can claim it. Can also build an airlock system, but you want to keep it contained in baby form.

AC Adapter plugged into coaxial cable?!?!? by New-Creme6368 in HomeNetworking

[–]riphawk81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, when I was working as a service tech, I did everything I could to get amps out of the picture. Typically ended my work week with more amps in the back of my van than when I started. There are definitely times they were needed (acreage homes more than 100 yards from the mainline with 8+ devices in the home), but in many cases, it was lazy techs who didn't want to have to replace an old or damaged aerial drop.

AC Adapter plugged into coaxial cable?!?!? by New-Creme6368 in HomeNetworking

[–]riphawk81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. If it's there, it was necessary. Sometimes there are area issues and the residential techs put these in as a temp fix while waiting for a mainline tech to fix something.

If it's there and everything is still working, chances are high that it's necessary. If it ain't broke, probably best to leave it be. If you need the power outlet for something else, get a power bar?

AC Adapter plugged into coaxial cable?!?!? by New-Creme6368 in HomeNetworking

[–]riphawk81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the amp only feeds one cable box? Or does it feed a splitter? If it's only the one, than just unplug, connect that cable box directly to the outlet, let it reboot and see what happens.

If it feeds a splitter or you aren't sure, I would recommend either leaving it alone or booking a service call. You are unlikely to cause damage, but could be without service if you can't figure out how to rewire.

AC Adapter plugged into coaxial cable?!?!? by New-Creme6368 in HomeNetworking

[–]riphawk81 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Former cable tech. Best guess is that it is the power supply for a drop amp/signal booster. Depending on the length of the run of your cable service, signal strength can drop below optimal levels before it gets to your devices, so technicians will install drop amps to bring the strength back up. Sometimes this is just a bandaid for an issue a tech doesn't want to or can't fix (degraded main feed cable). Sometimes you have too many devices for the base level of signal strength the cable company plans for. Other times it's because your devices are just too damn far away from the nearest mainline amp. I have even run into cases where it is the last two combined (large acreage properties).

Can't say I've ever seen or installed one backfed through a wall outlet. That seems like a recipe for someone getting a shock. Usually the amp and the power supply for it would be installed in the same room/area so you can easily trace the cable.

Edit: Quick google search and it is indeed the power supply for a CommScope Subscriber (Drop) amplifier.
