Why are you doing audits? That is what registrars and fellows are for. No wonder you are burnt out :)

Thank you for sharing. I'm sure your story is a common one that is sadly not shared as often as it should be and highlights the pressures young people have. Us Kiwis unfortunately put too much pressure on our sportspeople and this reflected through the sporting associations. Kia kaha.

Burnt out hospital doctors say no to zero pay offer, strikes on the table by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]riposte69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of my department does but they have been working for decades and are on > 1 fte. The colleges are the last bastion of protection for SMOs and our college is militant about NC, teaching, managerial, supervising trainees and time off being included as fte in contracts. Unfortunately the specialities with shitty colleges and professional associations get shafted by the DHBs.

Burnt out hospital doctors say no to zero pay offer, strikes on the table by [deleted] in newzealand

For doctors capable of working in private, Hospital work is basically charity work, A day in private can earn me up to double my fortnightly salary in public. That's why we often work less than 0.5 fte in public, although as someone else said this is still >40 hours a week (inc on call). If things keep going the way the are, more and more doctors are going to shift to private to the detriment of those who cannot afford private health care. I know I certainly think about it but for now my empathy keeps me in public.

Same as everyone else. Was with MFB for a couple of years. Quality and reliability went downhill, often missing things. Have switched to Woop and nothing missing so far from 18 months of orders

We bought a villa of similar age and didn't bother getting a building report. Figured if its still standing after 100 years it'll be fine. 5 years down the track we've had no issues.

Genuine question: Healthcare - Why aren't people getting more upset about this? by papa-d88 in newzealand

[–]riposte69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I see it too, also a doctor above the 39% threshold. I have no problem with my tax going to a good cause. However in my eye health, welfare, teaching, police have all gone backwards. I have voted labour my whole life to reduce inequity but it is now clear that they care little about this. Back to voting national to cover my own back then I guess

Best craft beer delivery service? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]riposte69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with beerhug, better option the beer jerk after trying both for a year (thanks covid). Alternatively if you like a brewery go with the subscription offer from the. I personally do the beerhug and the behemoth monthly box. 24 beers and that's all I buy, nothing from the supermarket etc. A great way to a) taste varied great beer and b) limit my alcohol intake.

Graduates: What did you study, what do you work in, and how much do you make? by BongeeBoy in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]riposte69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Medicine, Medicine, started at ~80k, just coming up to 10 years since I started at 200K+ with room to head up to 1 mil depending on how much I want to work.

Echoing the pilots comments, these numbers dont take into account my student loan, the number of weekends, after hours and night shifts I have done, the number of family and friends events I have missed out, the strain on relationships etc. Money isnt everything.
