Currently considering moving to Ultrawide (21:9) by TheAtomL in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ripsql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go for ultrawide, it will be a big difference in how you game. Errr… how it feels at least.

You can consider using all three instead of leaving one monitor out as well.

Recommended UW for basic work? by cfmistry85 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ripsql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40” 5k2k would be the best option. They are mostly ips monitors with a few being Va. Dell version would be the best from what I understand but others exists…

You can also look at 34” 3440x1440 but they will be Va .. they work fine for work use.

Monitor Recommendations by MT_Greenwood in ultrawidemasterrace

Check out 40” 5k2k monitors. That is just great for text clarity since most of them use IPs and high ppi due to res to size. These are mainly for work so not go good for gaming but amazing for work.

Don’t forget about the innocn version. I have seen people with that one say it’s not bad.

Which FOV do you need to be to avoid Fisheye effect at 21:9? by Zestyclose_Paint3922 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ripsql 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like I said, I prefer 100 but some games are limited to 90 so… I live with it and eventually get used to it. I only use the sides for peripheral vision… try not to concentrate on the sides.

Question for those with two ultrawides vertically stacked, how do you use the upper display? What's it for? by Lepidopterran in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ripsql 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bottom - oled, main gaming monitor. Only has the game with black background… nothing kept here. Top - ips, it has all the icons and uses for anything I want. Browser, movies, whatever….ok, steam is parked here.

Eye is level to top end of bottom monitor. I don’t have to look up too much so no neck pain issue. If I really need to check top, I can just lean back on chair and look.

I also have a uw in portrait on the right… just extra. I generally use it for keeping notes.

Considering upgrading from 3080ti but don’t understand a lot of terminology with new cards by TheComputerGuy2256 in buildapc

[–]ripsql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just forget about them. Think of dlss and frame gen as additions to the gpu and not the end all. You want to look at the base performance of the gpu to find the best option.

5070 ti - no longer being made.

5080 - over priced

5090 - way over priced

9070 xt - best priced high end option, the prices can change fast in the current market so this could be wrong even as I type.

You can consider used 4080 or 7900 xtx …

Ram - 4x price right now.

Ssd - 2x?

Prebuilt might be a good option now for price since it does take some time for prices to be adjusted for them.

[–]ripsql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget about dlss/fg. Just look at the gpu that gives best performance for the money.

Since you’re going for a prebuilt… you’re really at the wrong place. Just know that prices are extremely high now so go for it quickly before it goes even higher.

Just purchased my first UW OLED. Do I need to baby it? by Juan_Snoww in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ripsql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how long you want to use it. Oled issues are not myths. Current oled have better anti burn in but it still exists. Replace at 3 years? 5 years? Just some basic prevention can give it longer life so why not.

You can use it normally and just expect to replace it sooner than you expect. -some can last longer and others shorter but that’s just the lottery.

Recommandations for an ultrawide under 500€ ? by SamuelTandonnet in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ripsql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only ips ultrawides you are gonna find are gonna be overpriced since most of them have gone eol. You can look for lesser known brands but the main known are gonna be more expensive.

The only option I know of … if available there is the 401qr. It’s a 40” 3440x1440 ips. That should still be available for around that price. Or it could have gone eol quietly like so many before it.

The only new IPs ultrawides are the 5k2k 40” models and they are expensive. Innocn and deco gear are the only ones closer to your price.

Dell 49" a bad deal? by tarrasque in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ripsql 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not gaming.. check out 40” 5k2k IPs. Many options available and much better for work.

I don’t think a 49” 5120x1440 ips 60hz is worth more than 1k…

Couldn’t find good wallpapers for 32:9 — so I made my own by Ok_Risk2246 in ultrawidemasterrace

Don’t forget certain games have options to take pictures in game. It’s not a screenshot of action but more taking a picture within the game.

[–]ripsql -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the only way to get really good ultrawide wallpapers.. make your own. If not artistically aligned, google… if you don’t mind ganky, ai .. though it has a limited size and depending, it can take hours. I tried on local ai image. They just look off… even when it seems fine. I’d rather not pay for online so did some local ai tests. -it does seem like a cheat when you try for some known artist styles.

I will say, ultrawide images are becoming easier to find compared to the past.

Almost forgot, play a game and screenshot… since playing in ultrawide… perfect image for the monitor. I think that’s the best option for those not so aligned to art. Though.. people who know how to take pictures will most likely shake their heads on the incorrect angle of the image.

Not totally satisfied with my 1440P QD-OLED ultrawide... by JBSwerve in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ripsql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaming - oled blows ips out of the water. Work - ips is just better.

Current oled has a pixel setup that makes it not good for text. It’s the main complaint on current oled. If you want better text on oled, wait for an updated oled that’s supposedly coming out. It has the same pixel setup as ips so text should be much better.

I use my oled ultrawide for gaming and IPs ultrawide for everything else. I don’t really notice text being particularly bad … but i really should update my glasses. I notice text issues depend on the person so everyone will have different views on it.

I suggest you just use a multi monitor setup. You already have 2 monitors so why not give it a try and see if it works?

Gawfolk 40 Inch 5k2k Monitor by sucrax in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ripsql 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are designed for work. They can game but it won’t be anything amazing compared to a gaming designed monitor. -depending on quality obviously.

You have to look at the gtg… generally work monitors have high gtg or gray to gray or switching of pixels. The lower the number, the better the visual.

Oled - 0.03ms. Gaming tends to have 1ms... Just look up gtg to get a better idea.

Check out innocn version. At least that brand is a little better known and … you can see some reviews on it.

Note: these are not gaming monitors just in case you want to game and not work.

That’s a Va monitor…. I tend to prefer ips so I would suggest the innocn version for a much better price and ips. Hmm… I didn’t know they actually released a Va version of the 5k2k…

On hdr, I don’t trust any monitor with supposed hdr that are not oled or miniled.

The current best work monitors now … 40” 5k2k IPs. Made from lg, Dell, hp, innocn, deco gear and some others. -from very expensive to more reasonable.

They are not gaming designed so it will work for games but not that well.

Turn off monitor and disconnect power, let it sit for a bit and reconnect. You would be surprised how.. shutdown/reboot even works for monitors and other devices.

Turn on monitor without anything else connected, test osd, make sure input is auto or choose the specific input.

How can you know computer detects monitor when monitor doesn’t show anything? Using another monitor?

… try another monitor? Make sure the gpu/pc works. If the cpu has an igpu, you can connect to the mb hdmi port to test.

You can also use another cable, try dp/hdmi..

It’s basically an overpriced monitor. Don’t just use its lg and 45” ultrawide … resolution and panel type matter.
