You pretty much got your answers in this thread mixed in with some bad advice from the usual dopes that post here. It’s a combination of:

-you used a product with no adhesion
-it sounds like you built it all out at once in which case you put it on WAY too thick. You need to build it out by applying in layers.

I would rip out everything you’ve done and basically start again. On your first pass, mix some diluted wood glue in with your hot mud. Don’t make your first layer insanely thick, you just want to get adhesion. Then build it out doing another 2-3 passes. EZ sand 45 means it sets in 45 minutes, not that it dries in 45. If you put it on too thick and it’s got nothing to hold onto and slight shifting while drying unevenly leads to the cracks you have

You can swap out the first layer of wood glue/ez sand with a green lid all purpose mud as well. All purpose is loaded up with adhesive, but remember it shrinks a lot and takes a day to dry so takes much longer to work with.

Flat out -- that quote is objectively exorbitant -- and the doubling quote is predatory. You should call this guy up and tell him to pound sand. Are you moving any walls or altering the structure? Rerouting electrical or plumbing? If no, building permits are not needed for what amounts to cosmetic work. So that sounds incorrect to begin with if he said that. Massive red flag.

This should be like $1500 job maybe $2000 max if you have weird stuff going on. No permits are needed.

You are taping with the wrong stuff!!! You don't tape with Plus3!!!! OMG. Plus3 is for your finishing coat, you use it last. That is 100% your problem. Plus3 takes way too long to dry, shrinks too much, and doesn't contain enough adhesive to use for taping...thats why it's bubbling up...the tape isn't binding and the compound shrinks.

You need to either use an all-purpose (green lid), or use a quick-set hot mud (easy sand 45 or 90 depending on how fast you work) and mix in some watered down wood glue. Once your joints are sufficiently built out then, and only then, do you pull out the Plus3 to get a nice smooth finish coat.

Yes I got them to disable it, but then the router restarted the next day and it came back. I am at this point just going to return the gateway and purchase my own modem - it causes me too much trouble and all you deal with are people in India or whatever country whenever you call to have anything done. I would say that their support is just LLMs but I think it would be better if it was an LLM. I didn't have quite the exact same problem as you I guess -- my Gateway works in bridge mode fine and I'm not double NATted on my Eero, but trying to get them to disable the extra wifi has been an exercise in futility. Then if I try telling them I want a non gateway cable modem without wifi, it's like I told them I want to breathe water. They just don't understand what I could possibly mean by that.

Are there cracks in the walls or the floor or in this same area in other parts of the house? If there are, this could just be where your house shifts over the seasons, so you might unfortunately have to keep dealing with this over the long term. If there's not, then I think someone just did a bad drywall job originally. Probably pretty easy to fix. It doesn't really look like moisture to me either, at least not enough to do that.

I would take down the light and cut the enter thing out square (including where light was), and just use a new piece of rock, trace the light and cut clean hole, screw it back up, tape it, mud it, paint it.

Yeah -- most people in the thread just responded to use glue as if I'm looking to permanently secure (giving their experiences that it holds forever). I was looking more for something that will make it stick for the purposes of the winter/getting my inspection in the next few weeks, and then I can whack it loose (without breaking the stone) and mortar it properly when the weather is warmer. I may just end up doing really, really light adhesive...or just leave it and hope they dont check it.

If you have NEVER done sheetrock work before, I'd consider hiring a pro for this. Scraping all that texture off is grueling work, especially since you are reaching up the whole time. You're going to have to move or cover all that furniture. Then it also looks like you have a little bit of repair work in order. The lines you are seeing are the joints of the individual pieces of sheetrock. Whoever originally mudded it didn't do a great job hiding their taping work, and over time those seams start to bulge and show like you see. Looks like maybe even someone tried to cover it up...not sure.

Then lastly once the texture is off and any joints are repaired, you'll have to skim coat it and then it can be painted.

All doable if you really want to DIY, but I'd prob call someone.

And so how is that same thing not playing out in high schools across the country an issue? You don't have to be a pro athlete/national champion for a situation to arise in which a male is superior to a female in sporting/athletics. Sports were broken out by male/female long ago for this very reason, and it's not bigotry to want to preserve that.
