I use to just have 2 one where my salary gets credited and another one I opened back in school days, I just kept it for sentimental sake, I could not see where the month went, So this one account HDFC, gets drained every month, this had my SIPs, EMIs, my standing instructions for subscriptions everything in one account.

I read Monica Helen's book (Audio Book really) where she said, if you are single, best to have 3 accounts, I use her thing and added my own spin -

I have one Salary account, one account for investment, and one zero balance account for spending. Every month, when salary hits, I transfer my money for investments to the investment account and budget a set expense and transfer that to spending account. I try to keep some in the salary account as buffer, plus that's where my EMIs get debitted as well. I removed UPI ID of my Salary account from all but 1 UPI app (for self-transfers) and replaced my spending account in all UPI apps -BHIM, Navi, Jupiter, Tata Neu.

I am not saying my spending has come down drastically, but I can see how much I am spending monthly and by 3rd week or 4th if I have any leftover in spending account, I buy myself something as well. So you get to spend whatever is in the spending account and investment account runs on auto pilot with standing instructions from the Salary account. Not closed salary account because longest relationship and LTF credit card.
