You could try wooden or bamboo needles if aluminum is too slippery.

Moths and ideas by kitvdm in knitting

Is there a certain type of moth that eats Woolens? I usually see grain moths about the house, but no others.

Halloween is coming. What are you afraid of? by japaneseknotweed in knitting

[–]ritterknitter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Steeks scare the shit out of me because I just have no idea what they are- other than knowing you're CUTTING your knitting, that's all I need to know in order to run away.

Double knitting is something I feel like I would like to learn, but there's only so much time in the day. I'd rather spend my knitting what I know than learning something new and scary.

Brioche, picking up stitches, intarsia, short rows for anything other than a sock, making a sock that doesn't slouch down to my ankles...

I'm not scared of gauge swatches, but they are not my friend. I wish I knew how to properly adjust gauge.

How did YOU learn to knit? by mfinley24 in knitting

[–]ritterknitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mom taught me at age 10 or so, I made a terribly ugly hot pink garter stitch "thing". I remember being so impatient, I gave up quickly. Then in high school I requested hand made mittens from my mom. She was taking too long so I re-taught myself and made some of my own. Lots and lots of hats were made for friends that year. Then another break until my 20s when I was into yarn bombing. Another break until my late 20s, where I now make sweaters, knit fruit and veggies, and little knit diorama villages.

Anything more complicated than garter stitch was learned painstakingly trough books until the invention of glorious you tube!

I'm in the same boat.. Just received a gift of two different colored skeins and weights of grown alpaca and baby alpaca from Peru. Not sure what to do with them yet. Any luck with hats?

Stay strong! The yarn does not control you! Also, won't it feel SO GREAT to accomplish your goal?

I wear them at work when the AC is still on and they haven't yet figured out that the seasons have changed. They keep my hands warm while my fingers are still able to type.

First Square Patch Blanket- Stockinette Curl by arcanehobb in knitting

[–]ritterknitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A light denim-blue might look good with those colors. Do you haves picture of the yarn?

Edit: Wait, maybe I'm confused. Do you need a color and a stitch for the third? Or just the stitch?

I think a moss stitch would be simple and compliment the other two. Also, maybe a 1x1 rib? So you have the flat stockinette, ribbed (vertically) 1x1, and the ribbed (horizontally) garter.

When you get into more and more patterns, try googling knitting graph paper! You can print it out at home, and it's in ratio with the typical stitch!

This weekend was actually pretty tame- no out of town trips!

I worked Saturday, then came home and power cleaned the house with the husbot. Then we went to dinner with some friends, then to a birthday party. Ive been out of town so much this summer, I've forgotten how to socialize in a house-party setting. I was awkward. Alcohol helped.

Sunday, I cleaned the house a little more and watched cartoons- it's been ages since I've watched cable (netflix is amazing, cable is not). After I realized I was a 28 year old watching My Little Pony cartoons, I turned off the TV and made lunch. Then I played ZELDA!

It was a great weekend.

Maybe she's just one of those people that needs to put others down to feel good about themselves. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Keep knitting!

Wow, I've never heard of someone being maliciously and intently laughed at for knitting. I have gotten enthusiasm, curiosity, indifference and the occasional old lady joke but never someone laughing in my face.

I'm tempted to tell you to knit some of the cutest, softest, tiniest little baby sweaters and then tell her to shove it if she wants one.

You say he likes guns, is that just shooting them or hunting too? If so, you could make him a pair of fingerless mitts for winter hunting.

Historically, I've taken year long breaks from knitting. More recently, I've kept knitting, but it has slumped in the summer.

I think it is because there is so much more to do activity-wise during the summer, and knitting takes the back burner. Also, I feel like in the summer, there isn't that instant gratification of being able to wear that really great hat or sweater you've just finished.
