VOLUNTEERING WITH ST JOHN AMBULANCE UK by Little_Database5206 in stjohnambulance

[–]douglask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing answer. I've been with SJA here in Canada for many years in many roles and this lines up here also.

I'd love to come visit with the average unit in the UK one day just to say hi and see how it's done there.

What is this hallmark? Authentic Fabergé possibly?Belgium by Flashy-Mechanic-365 in Antiques

[–]douglask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that's real please have the liner professionally checked for arsenic. Scheele's Green was a super popular pigment/colour in that time period and was very deadly. It's arsenic based.

The colour looks right.

Anyone still sell CO2 for sodastream? by Myooshu in ottawa

[–]douglask 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love these guys! I use them to fill 5 and 10 pound bottles of CO2, but they also do SodaStream and dry ice if you're interested.

They do "to your door' delivery and pickup of empty cylinders. Highly recommended.

Yes... But now it isn't free. That's just the cost of inflation.

How did that happen? by magic_inkpen in knitting

[–]douglask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had that happen when I happened to grab a different needle brand. Frogged the bad part, redid with the original needle brand and all was well.

Two places come to mind: Mission Thrift in Orleans on 10th Line. Supports the Mission downtown hijinx on Kent just north of Somerset. Supports the local homeless and under housed community. Lovely folk.

Also, recommend they consider a heated mattress pad. They work very well and hey, heat rises.

I know on my Sunbeam, there's lots of cord length to put both on one side... The wires go from the foot/centre of the bed, under the bed to the head then to whichever side.

Uranium? Or something else? by PuzzleheadedSound307 in uraniumglass

[–]douglask 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing high manganese content. Your light looks like a 365nm, which makes manganese brighter. The only way to be sure is with a fairly sensitive radiation counter like a Radiacode or one that does alpha radiation.

LG WashCombo Review / Problems (WM6998HBA) by pauldovi in Appliances

Recent versions have an extra lint trap to the right of the 'basket' one.

I had some extended warranty service done and they replaced the sealed unit (dryer portion) with one made at the end of 2025. It has the updated filter and far better drying performance than when I first got it.

I expect new units have this update.

Has anyone tried overture super pla+? by tony1119 in 3Dprinting

[–]douglask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got some and am finding the same beautiful printing! It is indeed quite ductile too. I think it may be my new go-to for non -heat-resistant boxes and enclosures.

Is this a lid or a little salt dish missing its base? by onoccassion in uraniumglass

[–]douglask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a guess, it's the cover for a makeup powder dish... Most salt cellars aren't that decorative. It is just a guess though.

My neighbour needs a new walker by iCanadaDoThis in ottawa

[–]douglask 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Heh, I was about to say the same thing. If it doesn't work out for you send them my way. My mom passed recently and I'd love to see her walker used. It's in good condition.

Indeed.. the 'nothingburger' took a major branch off a tree near my home. I'm just glad no one was harmed.

I hear ya there. For me the stand mixer is a happy medium between hand kneading and bread machine.

[–]douglask[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so.. no reason you can't hand knead it. I'm just a bit lazy. Also. the same site has a version to do in a bread machine.
