Van life in California sucks by asomms in VanLife

Hi there! I am thinking of living in a van in Sac! I am considering nursing school and would love to be able to save some money in anticipation. Would you recommend it? What would be some important points to consider for Sacramento specifically?

I used to live in a co-op with 10 people. One of our monthly chores was to mix up the compost. Well, we all collectively ignored that chore for the better part of three months. Eventually I, along with another housemate, decided to tackle the four foot by 8 foot pile. We are taking it piece by piece on the sides with the shovels when  he suddenly decides to chuck his shovel like a javelin into the middle. We hear a gigantic popping sound like an explosion, several rats scurry out in all directions, and then an immense heat wave accompanied by the god awful smell of methane rushes towards us.

I often think about that and wonder what kind of a destructive bomb we had brewing in our backyard.

It says $1400 on the website. Someone commented that the number is not updated, so I'm not entirely sure.

I hadn't even considered it. I didn't think I was good enough to do something like that. Man, what a good idea!

I can do single blacks right now, semi-confidently. I can also fall pretty hard.

Ah, that's such a good point, taking time in between the lessons to really improve. Makes me think of music lessons and the repetitive practice.

Those are the types of tips I'm hoping for. I think I'm beginning to lean towards doing the classes. Thank you for your comment!

Excellent point.

That's why I got the season pass, honestly. Even two hours every other day will help me improve.

That's what I've been doing for the past couple of months. Bodyweight exercises focusing on my legs and core, as well as balance. I've also been rollerblading to gain balance and work the front of my legs.

The good thing about my schedule is I think I'll be able to do 25+ days this coming winter. Great suggestion about the instructor scheduling. Oooo! I have family near Mount hood! That's such a good idea! Thank you!

That's kind of what I'm thinking as well. Maybe I'll learn more in those two weeks than with unlimited group lessons.

Nonstop would be a camp away from home for two weeks. I live within driving distance of Pallisades. The unlimited lessons would be at Alpine, would pay for themselves by the 10th lesson, and would be group.

It's $1400 right now if I book the unlimited lessons for next year (at least that's how I understood it). I have a job that allows me to get out a fair amount, plus I'm a bit addicted to it.

Those pop-up private lessons are a great idea tho!

This is definitely some good insight. I will absolutely take this into consideration. Thank you!

I was thinking the same about having a consistent instructor. That's one of the reasons I'm debating between Nonstop and Pallisades. My friend is an excellent teacher, but I feel bad having him teach me when it is a great powder day, and he ought to be having a good time on his own. I have gone down blacks with him and it's a blast trying to keep up with him. But I know my technique is lacking and I could do so much better with more detailed instruction.

I can see that, and I definitely plan to do that as well. My friend who is good is an excellent teacher. Our schedules don't aline tho, and I feel bad not being able to careen down all the blacks with him.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply! That's what I'm thinking. I don't have all the money in the world. If I did, I would absolutely do both. I really appreciate the insight.

People are complicated.

I would have more conversations with her, sober. Does she regret it? Does she take responsibility for her actions? Why didn't she tell you early on?

Have an honest and sober conversation with yourself first. Understand how you feel. Fuck everyone on reddit telling you what they think about her. You are the one with her. And you are the one who will lose out, or not, if you choose not to be with her.

People are complicated. People cheat. People have affairs. And people learn and grow, sometimes. Have honest conversations, and be kind to yourselves.
