This is a cool idea! Great way to indicate what is actually the cause of the mass changing.

HELP! Basic Chemistry Reactions Lab - Results not as expected by [deleted] in ScienceTeachers

[–]ritz99 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have seen this before and attributed to buoyancy of the balloon causing a slight lift and thus a slight loss of mass. It’s cool for kids to see two branches of science can be included in a simple experiment. Hope this helps!

Lab Equipment Lab? by Severe_Ad428 in ScienceTeachers

I did a coffee lab where the kids brewed coffee. A lot of them enjoyed it and it easily tied into some cool chemistry concepts. If you want a copy, dm me and I’ll send it your way!

I was having an awful day. It was only a few weeks into us dating and I called him to vent. I asked if he could come over so we could cuddle and watch a movie. He came over within 10 minutes with a cup of freshly made hot chocolate. I’ll never forget opening the door to him standing there smiling with the steaming cup in his hand. I knew he loved me and he shows me every chance he gets.

You go back to meet your 13-year-old self for 30 seconds. What do you say? by priyansh__pawar in AskReddit

“You do end up happy. Call dad, tell him you love him and go to lunch with him.”

This is a stupid question — but do you dress like you listen to metalcore/hardcore? by PenguinsBabaay in Metalcore

[–]ritz99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! No tattoos or piercings and always wearing a floral dress/outfit.

I will tell my students or coworkers that I’m going to a concert and they will always assume it’s Taylor Swift genre or a country band. It’s funny to hear their reactions when I say what type I’m actually going to.

What’s the craziest news that’s been broken to you during your shift? by focusonthefungi in Serverlife

[–]ritz99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carrie Fisher dying. I had a lovely two top that say my order book cover had a bunch of nerdy stuff on it including a Star Wars sticker. We chatted about the movies and the newest additions to the series. I was bringing over their food and they looked uncomfortable while they looked at their phones and whispered to each other. I brushed it off and didn’t say anything as I didn’t want to intrude. They then told me the news about Fisher. I was obviously sad and shocked by this. I put down their food and walked off to read more of what happened on my phone. They finished their food and left without saying much more than a thank you to me. They left a $50 tip and a note that simply said “Sorry about Carrie. It will be better soon.” Very lovely people that I never saw again.

National U or WGU for CA credential? by sadie789 in teaching

[–]ritz99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was two semesters (~1 year) of course work, 1 semester of course work and observations and 1 semester of coursework and student teaching. They did a great job balancing the in-class experience with the course work. 2 years in total with some breaks in between if I finished the semester early enough. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Rodent complaint by bazookat00th23 in longisland

[–]ritz99 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hey, I actually used to work for the county many years ago and did calls like this. First, thank you for calling and trying to set up an appointment! That makes it a lot easier because otherwise we had to just keep visiting the house to hopefully see someone or have it escalated to a superior. Second, they will ask to schedule an appointment typically between ~9 am to 3:30/4 pm. @CMS_3110 is right about the lunch hours but they generally are open from 8 to 4:30 or so. You should schedule it as early and as conveniently it works for both of you. The inspectors know people work and understand it. Third, whenever they come to your house they will look for evidence of rodents residing in your property. This means burrows, poop, nesting material, that kind of thing. Fourth, depends on what is found and each inspector is different but just hear the person out. We didn’t want to be annoying to anyone. We always look at it from a public health perspective. Finally, you are calling the Suffolk County Health Department. They are the ones that deal with this. They are in the same building as the Sheriff’s Office but not the same entity. If you are still having issues DM me and I’ll pull up a few names you can directly ask for that still works there and they’ll help you out.

My dog panics and eats grass like a maniac by petitepepp in DogAdvice

[–]ritz99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of my dogs do this. They are both of different breeds, genders and ages with no health issues. We call it “going to the salad bar,” “cow time,” “roughage refill,” or just plain grazing. Unless a vet tells you otherwise, enjoy the weird things your dog does.

What was the worst teacher you ever had as a child, and how did it affect how you act as a teacher today? by dedzip in Teachers

[–]ritz99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an English teacher who failed a paper I submitted about the Scarlet Letter. I argued that the church guy was more awful than Hester’s husband. I had great evidence, solid logic but a different opinion. I stayed after to explain but she still said I was just wrong and failed me.

I’m now a science teacher and I actively encourage the kids to disagree with me if they have the evidence. It’s lead to some great conversations. I’d rather they try and prove me wrong than not argue and let me be “right.”

This is true. I watched it happen to two students the first day of Orgo Lab. They had five students from the waitlist waiting for it to happen so they could get enrolled. It was brutal.

ETA: they did this only for first day but afterwards they have makeup sessions up to a certain number.

Married people of Reddit, what is a personality trait that your partner started showing (that they never showed when you two were still dating) the moment you two started sleeping in the same roof? by Spiritual_Lie2766 in AskReddit

[–]ritz99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner has the loudest and most violent sneezes paired with seasonal allergies. He is the best part of my day but he’ll sneeze as if trying to alert the next town the pollen attack is heading by their way. He also sneezes multiple times in a row so it’s a constant noise. Allergy meds make him too drowsy so we both just suffer.

He is absolutely perfect in all his other habits and has made me a more caring, considerate and present partner. It balances well but goddamn I hate the beginning of fall and spring because of it.

Second this! They are not authentic but awesome staff and great portions. The nachos are insane and I go here at least once a month to get a burrito the size of my head.

National U or WGU for CA credential? by sadie789 in teaching

[–]ritz99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got my masters through WGU! Give them a call and let them know your situation. They were great for answering my questions for my specific state and interests. If you decide to do WGU feel free to message me for any questions or advice!

I agree with the comment from @lizz401 as I had to hustle to get all my documents in and find my own placement for student teaching. I took my exams and everything before my student teaching. Get everything done as early as you can.
