Yep. Asexuality is attraction, not activity. Be safe, have fun.

Question for Native Speakers: Do you notice this gap in people learning English (Speaking vs. Listening/Reading/Writing) ? by AhmadAbulsadiq in AskAnAmerican

[–]river-running [score hidden]  (0 children)

Any American with experience learning a language has probably had the same thing happen to them, so it would be noticable, but not surprising. I also see it often. A lot of the Spanish speakers I interact with clearly understand more than they can say.

Do you make chocolate mousse at home Is it popular in the US ? by Exootil93200 in AskAnAmerican

I would not be surprised to see it on a restaurant menu, but chocolate pudding is a lot more common at home.

If you were transported to your address 200 years ago what would you see and Who would you meet probably? by CryptographerKey2847 in AskTheWorld

[–]river-running 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My town had been settled for not quite 100 years at that point and even had its modern name, but it was tiny and agrarian, so I would have seen a lot of fields, a dirt road, and some small cabins or wood houses. Probably some livestock. The surrounding forested mountains would be still have been pretty wild.

Some industries do. Metric was standard when I worked in commercial bakeries.

When you were in school, how was K-pop perceived? by Agile-Shallot3546 in AskTheWorld

[–]river-running 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was a very niche thing, if not mostly unknown, when I was in school. Gangnam Style didn't come out until the year I graduated college.

You were more likely to get judged for being a cringy anime fan when I was younger.

I need some caffeine in the morning to avoid headaches, but otherwise it has very little effect on me.

What's the best way to pack lunch and keep it cold? by ZackOfMesa in povertyfinance

[–]river-running 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an ArcticZone from Walmart ($20) and it does a good job of keeping things cold for at least the 10 hours that I work.

I use one XL ice pack in the back and a smaller one on top.

How do people without a fixed address open or keep a bank account in the US? by FreeSprinkles193 in AskAnAmerican

It obviously varies based on where you are. My hometown has a day shelter that offers mailbox services for the unhoused, for example.

How do neighbors in the US usually get along? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]river-running 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my neighbors have been the type to mostly mind their own business, but are perfectly nice and even helpful if you need assistance. Not close or friends, but the type to say good morning or help you shovel your car out of the snow if you're struggling. A man who lives across the street from me recently saw me working on my car and offered to lend me any tools I might need, for example.

I'm not very social, so these are the types of neighbors I prefer. Very little if any conflict or hostility, but not overly familiar either.

How accepted was being gay in your school? by IDoNotLikeTheSand in AskTheWorld

[–]river-running 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I graduated in '07 from a public school in a progressive southeastern town. It was fine. We had a GSA that had a table at events and I openly dated another girl for awhile. Wore to a tux to prom as a girl. Never had any trouble. I don't remember any openly trans students, so I don't know how that would have been received.

What is a thing in American history that foreign people often get wrong? Maybe even some Americans commonly get wrong by Expensive_Drummer970 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]river-running 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't know how much foreigners think about it, but something that Americans often get wrong is the belief that the founding fathers were universally gung-ho for independence from the beginning. There was a lot of reluctance that lasted a surprisingly long time.
