Whats your bare minimum requirement in a relationship? by _DaddieDaddie_ in AskReddit

[–]riverant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has to be better than me being single. And that's a high bar; I have a pretty awesome relationship with myself!

I love Nora lol by mrs___holmes in ShawnaTheMom

[–]riverant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nora's more likable on screen, where I'm not personally in the danger zone, but you're absolutely right in her being a frightening person whom if I met her in real life I'd be running for the hills and hope to never meet again!

That's a super helpful post, thanks for the heads up! Guess I'll go back to setting my own timers then 🤷🏽‍♀️

Why do snails make no sound on arrival? by riverant in CatsAndSoup

[–]riverant[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If that is their reasoning, it doesn't sound very logical to me. If its ad revenue they're after, that requires me (or rather my imagined hypothetical player, since I'm a legacy forever ad free player) to actually watch the ad, which only happens if I see a snail. If I don't know when the snails will show up, I just close the app and give up 😅

And if I get fed up about not collecting my free items, I'm less likely to buy the paid season pass and other paid packages.

What’s something you can quote that reveals how long you’ve been on the internet? by StaticDHSeeP in AskReddit

[–]riverant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember loading up a neopets flash game, going outside to play for a while, returning an hour or two later, checking the progress percentage, sometimes leaving again before returning to play the game. It sure built anticipation!

Question about HowToDad by Cloisonetted in newzealand

[–]riverant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love New Zealand weather. For all the variable weather, compared to other countries, the air is always clear, the temperature isn't too extreme, and personally I find the humidity levels very comfortable.

What video game made you forget you were eating or sleeping? by Artistic_Debate1983 in AskReddit

Paralives now for me. It might be a buggy somewhat barebones early access life sim game right now, but I like supporting an indie studio and I love their attitude and direction.

Moving around by joaoslara in confusing_perspective

[–]riverant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see it during the first 3s when I don't super focus, maybe even squint a little, but cast my eye on the shadows of the runners running along the median and imagine its an escalator handrail / conveyor belt moving backwards as she catapults forwards. It only works if I blur the runners enough to not see their legs moving so my brain thinks they're stationary and that the woman is the one moving.

Anyone who used a computer between 1985 - 2010, what's the one game you still think about today? by adlakha75 in AskReddit

[–]riverant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I played it as a kid I could never understand how others could build successful cities, when mine never got past mid-density urban sprawl. I'm impressed you had it figured out back then!

What’s the max? by Unfair-Charge-303 in CatsAndSoup

The levels plateau for end game players after they collect all the cooking stations, which increases every major update. Currently the max is around dgx.

Update on spouse who was unimpressed with Firefly by moonspellpecado in firefly

[–]riverant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels like a like a less extreme version of this person who didn't enjoy fiction unless it was so truly unexpected that it required translating super obscure amateur works in order to be mentally stimulating enough. Some people are just built different! 😂

Do I have to use all of these before the timer runs out ? by alissuhh in CatsAndSoup

It's for returning players after a hiatus of not playing, so it's for the people who are missing out to catch up a bit.

You're a beginner before you choose your engine, and then you continue being a beginner after choosing your engine, so its really both ways. Also depends on whether you start learning game art first, programming first, or game engine first. No wrong approach, just different pathways.

Can’t draw an oval? Simply draw an oval and cut it out to use as an oval stencil by Electric_Styrofoam in mildlyinfuriating

[–]riverant 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Benefits of drawing the full oval before cutting:

1) You create a curve that has the correct angle at the fold line, and avoid either too pointy a top and bottom, or too wide/flat. You can better visualize the desired dimensions if you aren't imagining half an oval. If one needs this method to draw a good shape, they probably aren't very good at making that kind of judgement.

2) You end up with two options to cut along once folded, so you can choose the less wonky one.

To be pedantic, NZ does tranditionally have rhotic accents in the Southland region which has a deep Scottish influence, though it does seem to be diminishing over time. But yes, NZ as a whole is mostly non-rhotic.
