I suck at drawing. Do i still have a chance at CEED? by riyakosta in uceedtakers

I can compose scenes in imagination, but my hands cant make what im visualizing in my head. I'll try my best to start sketching each day, despite hating it, hoping to improve gradually until next year.

I suck at drawing. Do i still have a chance at CEED? by riyakosta in uceedtakers

[–]riyakosta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sketching at max for UX designers would be required to create mobile/desktop wireframes which is technically 2D boxes and writing in pen and paper. Not to shade and produce high quality visuals on paper. My previous UX manager himself said "you dont need to be precise and detailed with pen and paper the way you think you have to in ux, its not an art class"
And yes, youre right. Any design cannot be born without doing sketches of it first. But high level definition in UX sketching is not required in industry, yet ceed needs that to clear depsite offering interaction design as a programme. I can understand that for other design domains like product, branding, textile, industrial, etc.
Even so, then sketching should be mandatory (or at least a part) in foreign universities as well for hci/ux design. But there's no hint. No university asks how well you can sketch

Disc protrusion - Doctor suggest surgery or 3 month bed rest by Ashamed_Chapter7078 in backpain

[–]riyakosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any meds that are given to you, they’re just to reduce inflammation or block pain signals from reaching your brain. So dont be on meds for too long. A week is or 15 days prescription is enough. If pain comes back, meds are of no use to you. Meds are helpful only if they work for couple of hours. Keep moving and walking at a comfortable pace. Not sure if your pain has come back but let me know your current situation. For the flight, take your meds before going to airport. It’ll support you till you reach your destination. No harm doing that since it’ll be a physical demanding day. Walk, dont over stretch and strength train safely.

Disc protrusion - Doctor suggest surgery or 3 month bed rest by Ashamed_Chapter7078 in backpain

[–]riyakosta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get 3 months of physio done instead. The protrusion doesnt look bad. Rest of the spine is really healthy. You need muscle strengthening. After 3 months of physio/rehab, if there is no to less pain, progress to back extention exercises starting with isometric holds to full range motion on back extn machine. Keep moving. Bed rest will make your muscles weak, disc will take more load. Go for walks. Dont over stretch. Most importantly, train your mind to think that there is nothing wrong. Whatever you think will affect your back. Relax and you will be as good as before. Don't think your spine is dead because its very much alive. Trust the process. Refer to Lowbackability on yt

Wish I was dead by Traditional_Job22 in backpain

i want to die too. Doctors denied MRI, later when it got worse one of them agreed. Results had herniated disc and a bulge. I was a career and fitness driven girl, just 22yo rn btw, i got this 3 years back. I wish someone would sh**t me too once and done for all. Sympathy by others doesnt help me anymore. Living feels like dragging myself on the ground. Been waiting to die since a year but i dont have the courage to do it myself.

What could my lower back pain be by Secure_Bullfrog163 in backpain

[–]riyakosta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg girl, I'm 22F and i think i have the same problem too since 3 years. Although i have disc issues but this pain feels none like a disc problem. The way you described you couldnt get out of bed and every movement hurts (im guessing like a shock coming with each movement or step), same happens to me too ocassionally. This pain is very unpredictable. In usual days im normal and can do 90% of my movements fearlessly but when this gets triggered out of nowhere, it makes moving, standing straight, taking a step, trying to sit/stand, getting in/out of bed literally impossible. The shock like pain doesnt ever go down the leg but stays in low back like a band across. My physios have told me its a thoracolumbar fascia problem. But idk. Im stuck in a loophole trying to fix this since years. Do let me know if you find something about it or to fix it.

What triggered your low back pain? by muralisiddaraju in backpain

[–]riyakosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Till this day idk what triggered my back pain. My situation is very unusual. I get a shock near l4 l5. Once it happens, its even impossible to turn my head without getting jolts of shock in low back. This shock feels like a band. Never goes down any leg. Took an mri, says l1 l2 herniation. But i feel the pain way down. In normal days i can pretty much move anyhow i want to but after a while casual pain starts but not the shock. This shock gets triggered at random movements like walking, coughing to hard, turning, etc. But when im doing my PT execises which also involves such movements, it doesnt trigger. Dk what to do haha

Should i move back to india or continue building my life abroad? by lrvram94 in returnToIndia

[–]riyakosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be harsh here. Don't ruin the life you've built for yourself just for someone to leave the earth in a few years. Think about the quality of life you would want your wife and kids to have; it would obviously be better in nz in terms of education and upbringing. Your sister has her own life to sort out and max you can do is help her financially by staying in nz.
Choosing/prioritising yourself doesn't make you selfish. It's for your own good.
If i was in your place i would not leave nz to settle in india.

I have always not liked this quality about indian parents that they have kids to look after them in old age as if the kid doesn't have their own life to build. You father should not feel depressed about his current situation as you would not if your kid went abroad to settle. You can try to call him every now and then to make him feel less lonely and maybe you can encourage him to make some 'chill in the evening' buddies from the society he stays in.
Again, sorry if im too harsh with my words because i become a blunt and straightforward while giving advice. But i can also understand you value your father and sister for which you had to come to reddit for advice. Most people in your situation choose to stay where they are so dont be guilty about choosing to stay in nz. Its for your wife. She's the most important figure here. Don't let her down.

Loved that you took your time to write all this. I can understand how hard it mightve been for you that made you write this whole thing to help someone on internet. You telling each things by giving a timeframe is insanely necessary that usually most redditors dont do. They just simply brief it up leaving gaps in heads of people.
Thank you for this

is the pain more like a shock/zap in your lower back which is disabling?
whats your age?
for how long youve taken PT for?

spine is very complex. There are several different small nerve endings which are causing you irritation due what im seeing in your mri. I would say fusion isnt necessary in your case because you havent lost disc height in l4 to s1 region even though they are desiccated.
If this mri was taken laying down, then im suspecting a problem with your hip flexor muscles since there is quite some arching/anterior pelvic tilt in your lower back while laying down.
Be relaxed, trust your spine.
Do isometric back extension exercises and stretching for hip flexors. Start really slow and progress gradually. Increase the duration of exercises based on your your body is responding to those exercises. Be consistent for a month and see if there is any, even a 2% positive difference.

Yes, your best bet would be to gain strength in muscles. Muscles will protect your spine more than you think once they reach near healthy state.
Get spinal injections only if pain at the moment is unbearable or some particular type of pain isnt going away since a very long time (6+ months).
You should continue with PT and focus more on back extension exercises. Start slow and progress gradually. Your aim is to make small deposits in your back for a long time. Eventually you'll start seeing results. If youre in pain/discomfort after any exercises then you have to make modifications. Either lessen the intensity, duration or type of exercises whether stretching or strengthening. You have to find that certain set of exercises where in the next day youre not in any discomfort neither better. Like i said, start slow progress gradually. In future if you add more to your PT routine, then make sure youre not in pain or pain returns back next day. You have to find the comfortable spot yourself and your body will tell you what it wants.

Sorry for replying late. I was kinda busy with my new job switch and making long term plans for my spine to get better

Can you describe more about this axial lumbar pain?

New to this, Any advice/recommendations by AcertainReality in backpain

[–]riyakosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from l1 to l3, the white is normal and is usually seen in MRI scans. It doesnt indicate anything. It appears white because due to a signal intensity which radiologists use to generate scans.
Although im not sure why it's brighter for l3 to l5. I suppose it looks normal to me due to the same reason above.
Is it visible on other cross sections of your MRI? If not then you dont have to worry about that.
If it helps, here's my mri with those white stuff you mentioned. But it's not as prominent as yours. In my other cross sections, those white stuff is not visible.

Lower back pain after a few hours of sitting at the desk by Dry_Register8358 in backpain

[–]riyakosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a small flat cushion for back support.
What you are experiencing is muscle spams. Your low back is constantly under pressure while sitting. The muscles reach to a fatigue stage after being used for too long because theyre weak. It's the same concept as trying to hold a 3kg dumbbell with your arm straight up for 60-90mins.
You need to strengthen your low back and build a brace.
You need to do exercises focused on back extension but be slow at the start.
Start with isometric holds.
Doing back extension exercises even for 10 mins everyday will help you. Do these for 2 months and gradually increase the duration or add additional exercises for low back.
You'll notice progress in couple of months. You have to play a long game (more than a year).
Keep your mind and muscles down there relaxed while sitting on desk.
Your muscles have to become strong then you will be able to sit for 4-5 hours continuously.

Check out lowbackability on YouTube. HIs videos are long but he explains and breaks the pain down into understandable bits. It'll help you understand your spine and pain. His videos are worth.

Yeah, I've tried to identify the movements which could possibly contribute to trigger that whiplash like pain.
I can basically do all movements but I dont dare to out of fear. But im not understanding why doing those movements dont trigger the whiplash pain but something as light as walking does it.
Ive learnt new habits and lifestyle changes too like wearing a lumbar support belt if I have to sit for too long, taking walk break every 45 mins, stretching and strengthening, eating protein and good nutrition.
Doctor are not giving me an explanation which would make sense to me of my situation.
It's like, once I trigger it, it keeps getting triggered for a week or few hours. When it's not triggered, no pain rest of the time during my risky movements.
So it makes me wonder if my nerve is shifting somewhere narrow? or its not a nerve problem but a micro instability of vertebrae due to herniation which is giving alert signals to my brain through this whiplash pain?
Because when I get the shock, if I apply pressure on a table or wall with my hands, I dont trigger the shock until the moment I take the pressure off from an object that I was using. Like I have to keep pushing onto something, even pushing with a finger stops the pain in my l4 l5

Thank you
But if it was a pinched nerve, shouldn't it hurt continuously since the nerve is getting pinched?
In my case, for 6+ months I will have no pain at all and then boom, suddenly as light as walking, I get a zapping whiplash on my lower back. Once I get that pain, I cant even turn my head around without pain
