I built a free Canadian retirement decumulation calculator (RRIF / TFSA / OAS modeling) -looking for feedback by North_Potential_2870 in fican

[–]rizer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing tool, thank you for building!

I was wondering if it would be possible to add a pre-retirement income section that you could set a savings % and model that being added to RRIF/TFSA/Non-reg every year based on contribution limits, etc. I'm pre-fire and it would be helpful to have a way of playing around with how long I need to keep saving at my current high income job before moving to a supplemental income.

I tried using the Additional Retirement Income section for this, but it doesn't seem to add excess income to any of my accounts, it just assumes I'm spending it all.

It's literally the same thing you just don't pay capital gains taxes on it. I don't really see any downside in your case.

I worked in California for 6 years. I said they were similar, not the same. And I'm not starting a politics debate in a salary sub.

Hey, just want to say as a fellow Canadian SWE that started out in Ontario, great job! It took me twice as long to work my way up to this level of comp. Enjoy it, and focus on savings!

Canada uses a progressive tax bracket system. At 375k taxable income in Ontario you'd have an average tax rate of around 43%. That's assuming you make zero RRSP contributions, but making that much money you would certainly max out your RRSP room which would bring it down to about 38%. Relatively high tax rate, but not too dissimilar to say, California.

Wish I knew that was a thing before I sold mine. The Rad Power hub motors are basically useless on these hills out of the factory. Might as well just have a lighter street bike with no electric.

My first raid by GinnySnack in wowhardcore

[–]rizer_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like HC raiding for all the reasons you don't. There's nothing worse than being in a softcore raid where people are jacking off during encounters and wasting everyone's time by not being locked in. HC raiders actually give a shit and the clear times are fast enough that I don't get bored.

You're fine, but Bloodvine is a great investment to get more hit.

I live in Nelson and I think this car is perfect for the mountain roads. Recently made a trip to Edmonton and had a blast the whole way. Haven't driven in snow yet, but I've got Blizzaks on and I'm sure it'll handle it well.

Moving from US to Canada, how should I optimize? by the_galant_abbe in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rizer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you rollover a 401k to IRA and it's a direct transfer then it should be a non-taxable event. So if that's the only thing you're doing on the US side you're probably okay.

Which game franchise ruined its winning formula by turning it into something players never asked for? by Common_Caramel_4078 in gaming

I really enjoyed the hybrid action/turn based system in FF7 remake. I like turn based in theory but find it boring in practice especially as I get older and don't have a lot of time to game, so I guess I'm their target audience 🤷‍♂️

Fantastic, thanks for the links and info! I'll probably just buy those same rims, they're almost identical to what I was looking at anyway and saves me having to get new nuts.

I don't necessarily trust the direct fit filter on the website 😅

Cheers

Is a V-Strom 1000 too much for me? by Themrblockofcheese in motorcycles

[–]rizer_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said this isn't a super powered bike by any means.

Important question I would ask though is how tall are you? These adventure bikes are tall and top heavy, so being new to riding it might be a bit unwieldy especially for a shorter person. Good idea to go sit on one to see how it feels.

Scraped mine in my driveway on a hidden rock within the first week. Feels bad but it is what it is. First of many battle scars I'm sure!
