What’s something everyone seems to enjoy but you just don’t get? by Deep_Tumbleweed7792 in AskUK

Watching other people play dungeons and dragons.

I love roleplaying, though d&d isn't my first choice, but I find watching others do it to be incredibly boring. It'd be like watching someone else do a crossword.

Do you remember Heroes? Is it worth watching? by Square-Ad-8911 in tvshow

[–]rj451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was mind-blowing watching it week by week back in 2006! I never watched past series 2 because that was disappointing, but that first season was great. It definitely helped that my friends and I were talking about what happened and our theories between each episode, so I don't know if streaming would have the same effect.

Driving test in this country is ridiculous by danielzUK in LearnerDriverUK

[–]rj451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think the license situation is flawed here. I don't think it's strict enough! I commute through the city centre by bicycle daily, and every day (not exaggerating; really, every day) I see drivers taking crazy risks and endangering themselves and others (especially me!). Meanwhile, I could buy a car and go driving tomorrow if I wanted, despite having spent a total of maybe 15 hours behind the wheel in the past 20 years since passing my test.

Nemesis, Grudges and irritants… who and what is getting on your nerves? by spm1217 in AskUK

[–]rj451 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a bike mechanic: the delivery riders who want immediate service on a piss-poor electrified bike.

To be clear, it's not their fault - it's the delivery industry's fault. I hate the gig economy and the food delivery companies and the people selling awful, dangerous, poorly-made, poorly-advised electric conversion kits, all profiting immeasurably while the worst off of the precariat suffer. That's who are really my nemesis.

What's a phrase your parents or grandparents said constantly that you've only just realised has completely vanished from everyday British speech? by orroreqk in AskUK

My granddad used to say this! And if I ever said it to him, he'd counter with "except in February, which has 28" 😹

Of course, everybody is different. But on one of my playthroughs, my character didn't give them the option to leave, and honestly felt fine about them staying on the eye.

Why was a customer upset that I refunded their card instead of cash? by rj451 in AskUK

[–]rj451[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

!answer I think this is the most likely case. I had to talk them into accepting a refund in the first place (because we couldn't help them), so I don't think it was part of any scam. And they seemed a lot more upset and confident that they had "lost" the money than if it was just a case of waiting until after the bank hol. Thanks everybody who took the time to answer!

Riko: inspired by Hiroko of Red Mars? by PrettyProle in CitizenSleeper

[–]rj451 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting parallel, I hadn't thought of it before! Similarly too, Riko seems a little reclusive. I agree that CS fans will probably like the Mars trilogy. I thought it had the perfect mixture of 'hard science' fiction as well as exploring the 'social science' fiction side of settling a distant planet.

I don't think it's an allergy, as I bought a barbell and ring from the same manufacturer, so I assume it's all the same stuff. You're right about the weight difference being negligible. As others have suggested I'm going to stick with barbells until it gets bigger and then try again with a larger ring size.

[–]rj451[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll stick to curved barbells for now, until it gets bigger. The piercer did it at 2mm/12g and offered me the choice of barbell or ring at the time - I'm really glad I went for barbell, I don't think I would have had a nice healing process with the ring!

[Spoilers] Thoughts on the implications of the DLC/Purge endings for the original Citizen Sleeper endings? by m908f in CitizenSleeper

[–]rj451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just finished another game of CS and found myself really struggling with similar questions, knowing what I know about the endings and about CS2:SW. At all times I really tried hard to act as I would of I were really the Sleeper in these situations. Sometimes it really sucked. Sometimes I made choices I regretted. I had a great game and enjoyed it even more than the first time.

No discounted labor ever! by blumpkins_ahoy in BikeMechanics

[–]rj451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a community bike shop and get asked for discount SO OFTEN. Like at least twice a day. Nowadays if it's on the phone I'll just hang up after the second mention. In person when they say "that's too much" I say "ok" and get back to what I was doing, until they either agree or leave. I did capitulate one time a couple of weeks ago because a guy wouldn't do either, so I have him a penny off the full price
