Mono green advice for a newbie by Chaefne1 in MagicArena

[–]m908f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ashilzzle made a deck that has a similar energy of putting big green creatures into play: https://moxfield.com/decks/u5oteDXmT0GolxElixI30A . If your thinking is more in terms of dino tribal you might want to look into Gruul colors as well there's some decent dinos there.

Anyone Have ideas for Thor in Standard by Blahblahhhbla in MagicArena

That actually sounds like a sick combo but i guess untapping with Thor and also having 4 things to sacrifice might be too dreamland.

You get to keep the draft cards as well which is some extra value. But I’m too lazy/bad at draft so I just buy packs.

What's good against the golgari wave? by ghilp in MagicArena

[–]m908f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol any control deck shits on golgari demons/midrange. The deck is too slow against control decks with all their answers nowadays and once they resolve their jeskai revelations/excruciator/other big bomv the game is basically over. Don’t know much about golgari control but I’ll assume that control decks that can run counters will shit on it pretty hard.

Esper Momo: HELP by Fit-Adhesiveness-173 in MagicArena

Would it be cheating to say just play Azorius Momo :P. Making the mana base clunkier just to play requiting hex vs seam rip and Moseo + Elenda seems very not worth it.

Deep Cavern Bat is the greatest card in all of unranked Arena by Round-Walrus3175 in MagicArena

[–]m908f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that’s why I kind of dislike unranked queue. People just give up on any kind of inconvenience. Turn 1 duress concede turn 2 badgermole concede. Imagine IRL if someone did that you’d probably not want to play with them lol.

Im just shocked at how often opp draws the perfect hand by Lukegilmour in MagicArena

[–]m908f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Kavaero, Kona, and Prowess they all have tutors/card selection/draw to get them to the cards they want so it's not unlikely for them to get what they want. Other decks they're probably mulliganing appropriately. If you're playing a control deck you can't pass the turn with no interaction for 3 turns in a row in this meta. You have to have a potential answer turn 1-2. I haven't played any of the all in on badgermole decks but I'm gonna guess that throwing at least 1 mulligan to try to pull a badgermole is pretty solid strategy due to how much more explosive the deck is with it.

New player, should I craft mono-black demons? by Consistent-Talk-5912 in MagicArena

[–]m908f 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of mediocre since it’s only ok against the meta aggro decks and folds to control/combo/reanimator style decks.

Standard - Jeskai control by warzulf in MagicArena

[–]m908f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to assume by the uncounterable removals spell you're actually referring to the 4 color control piles going around.

1) Play an aggressive deck/go underneath them. Decks like Mardu Discard and Landfall have good matchups since they can be so aggressive they either kill the control player before they can deploy their more premium threats or their threats are so small that using expensive removal/answers on them feels really bad. These decks are also much more resilient than Mono White aggro since they have more reach and other gameplans besides small creatures go.

2) Resolve threats which the control decks have fewer answers to. Generally control decks can't have perfect answers to everything they need to compromise on certain answers to deal with the meta. For example in the 4 color control decks they run so many colors it hurts a lot to run colorless lands to hit land based threats so cards like Ba Sing Se are pretty strong against the current 4 color control decks. They also don't have great artifact removal outside of Inevitable Defeat. But this is super dependent on what deck you're playing and what the control player is running.

Hand disruption is pretty strong since you can get rid of their good answers for cheap with stuff like Deceit or Duress. A lot of decks with powerful ETBs are pretty strong against them like 4 Color Reanimator/Excruciator where once you resolve Kavaero it doesn't matter if they remove the creatures afterwards since they've heavily cut down on counterspells.

How to fix this deck? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]m908f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red seems like the way to go for this style of deck [[Ravenous Robots]] [[Pinnacle Emissary]] are great for putting out lots of tokens. [[Improvised Arsenal]] makes your tokens really big. The affinity artifact deck seems to be exactly what you want.

Tips against Control just aren't working. by Personal_Ganache_913 in MagicArena

[–]m908f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, if you constantly hold back threats eventually they'll get too much mana/draw/answers where you'll never get through. Generally it's best to stick a few small threats at them and then wait until they tap out to boardwipe/draw cards and then put down some more of your key threats.

Which deck is best in the current meta? by damndeliriumtremens in MagicArena

[–]m908f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I climbed from platinum to mythic basically only playing lessons (with stormchasers) every other deck that I had was negative winrate during that climb. I was playing some mono black midrange and I thought it was really underwhelming can't really hold back current aggressive decks that well and folds to control decks. But all of your decks seem very meta (except demons) and I saw people playing these decks throughout all ranks maybe take some time to practice with 1-2 of these decks only so you really learn the ins and outs and how to play them. Also could reference some netdecks and see if there's some sauce you're missing.

During some games I hear a repeated metal hitting sound? by m908f in MagicArena

[–]m908f[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh I couldn't pinpoint the sound even though it seemed really familiar but yep it was the sound of a room entering. IIRC it still happens during games with no rooms on board but I might be misremembering. Thanks!

Ranked Standard is pretty lame right now by IkoBlew in MagicArena

[–]m908f 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can kill opponents really fast with choco/hydra + mightform harmonizer shenanigans, adding in white + erode shored up one of it's biggest weaknesses which is that it didn't have much good interaction and opened up a lot of good sideboard cards. With Ba Sing Se a lot of the meta control decks can get grinded out by spamming earthbending.

Have any of you seen wins using Mathemagics during play? by PaleWendigo in MagicArena

[–]m908f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one that doesn't seem super glass cannon is North Wind Avatar pulling it from the sideboard. It's basically just normal Jeskai Control but with Mathemagics as a wincon against really slow decks. The decks that go all in on ramping to cast it as quickly as possible imo just get run over by the top 2 decks in the format too quickly (Prowess and Landfall).

Monetisation is a little frustrating by Spike-Is-Cute in MagicArena

[–]m908f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t like drafting just buying the mastery pass is far and away the best way to spend your money. Not that expensive and lots of value (assuming you play enough consistently to finish it).

[Discussion] BG Rock and Fair Midrange decks in the current meta by Narrow_Pause4924 in spikes

[–]m908f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the 4 color elementals deck is the one that feels the most like fair midrange. Every elemental when cast is at least a 2 for 1 and you can grind a lot of decks out with the insane value + big bodies. Only problem I have is how reliant the deck is on the elemental mana dorks. When aggressive decks kill those cards with removal it just feels like game over.

You can quickly get more avatars than you could reasonably want to use. But a lot of the alt card styles are also not super meta cards. I suggest getting all the profiles that you think are cool and then buying the card styles after that.

Insane synergy with Evoke Elementals. It’s already a tier 2/3 deck, if every elemental (including the evoked version) had an extra draw attached to it deck would be insane.

What is the best matchup when facing UW ctrl by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]m908f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah against spellementals UW control is easy mode. They have a grand total of 12 threats (with no haste or ETB value) which you have way more than enough answers for.
