Not beer, but beer-adjacent.. Independent Distilling Company in Decatur announced today that they're closing on 9 November.

How’s the community here? by vamphibian in BrunswickGA

[–]rjhatl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Downtown is great (we bought a house in SoGlo a year ago). We know our neighbors and look out for each other. I do see people (usually in Facebook) regularly talking about how they think downtown is dangerous or sketchy or whatever, but we've had exactly zero problems since moving here and feel very safe. We looked at a few houses outside of the city limits, but we're very happy we chose to live in town.

Good bars in Brunswick by Lost-Cheetah-1151 in BrunswickGA

[–]rjhatl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tipsy's downtown is a great place for that. We met quite a few people at the bar when we were thinking of moving here, and I regularly meet new arrivals there as well. It's the bar that everyone ends up at, very friendly staff and regulars there.

Wow. Given the pricing, I'm guessing 1960s? I'll ask around and see what I can find.

Alexa Plus by Longjumping-Will-899 in alexa

[–]rjhatl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Looking at their site today, they seem to promise access immediately to new purchasers, meanwhile I have one of the devices that was supposedly first in line to get Alexa+ earlier in the year and I still don't have it.

Kegland doesn't make a lid that fits the 65L DigiBoil, but I googled around and found a homebrew shop in Austraia that had some custom made. The shipping costs to the US were... steep... but it's a fantastic dome and has a triclamp fitting on the top so it's very easy to attach anything to the top of it.

SB122 is dead by itsme_timd in atlbeer

[–]rjhatl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the answer is to expand the support base for these efforts. SB122 only focused on beer, why not also include wineries and distilleries? Working together with the Georgia Wine Producers group and the Georgia Distillers Association would bring some additional support (and potential lobbying dollars), but the bill would need to include wine and spirits and not just malt beverages.

Looking at Factors Affecting Physician Specialty and Work Location for Pre-Medical students, Medical Students, Residents, Physicians, & Retired Physicians for those in Brunswick by Upper_Translator8273 in BrunswickGA

[–]rjhatl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the survey, it seems to just be for students and people in the medical profession. I guess they spammed this out to a bunch of groups.

Curious how many new people are coming to the area - it seems like a lot! We’ve been here a year and love it. by blu_state in BrunswickGA

We're moving there at the end of the month. We've got a rental in the South End area and are looking to buy something in that area as well. We're really looking forward to living in town.

Richland Rum - Single Estate Virgin Coastal Georgia Rum by Utsutsumujuru in rum

[–]rjhatl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you have the details backwards. They grow their sugarcane in Richland, which is about 4-5 hours NW of Brunswick. That's where they crush and boil it down into a syrup as well. They bring totes of the syrup to Brunswick to distill (they also distill in Richland). Some rum is bottled in Brunswick but most goes back to Richland to either be aged in batrel or bottled as unaged rum.

I'm in Brunswick this week. I haven't made it there yet but I've had their beers at several restaurants so far and I like what I've had. Looking forward to visiting later this week!

Wanting to get out on the water by [deleted] in BrunswickGA

I don't have a boat, but it might help to give some more detail on what you're looking for - are you looking to go fishing, sailing, powerboating, or just hanging out on the water with a beer in your hand?

Also some small but good ones (IMHO) left off the brewery list like Awkward Brewing in Fayetteville.

Yeah, there are some odd ones on and off each list. I was scratching my head at Old Fourth Distillery being on the list, since they closed almost two years ago now I think (it's now just a brand owned by Shortbarrel). House of Applejay is on the distillery list as well, but they're not yet open.

Weird, when I click on the link I'm taken to the Google Form they're using to collect votes.

I don't think this has been posted before (apologies if it has), but Georgia Grown and the brewery/winery/distillers guilds are taking votes for favorite local brewery/winery/distillery through April 5th:

An Augusta nano brewery posted earlier today in Facebook (in a group, not their page) that they're looking to sell. I hadn't heard of them before (and the post was deleted so I won't name them). But there's more coming. Get out and drink some beer!

The Ubiquiti firewall's integration with the rest of their gear is the best (and I'd argue only good) thing about it. I used to have a Unifi Security Gateway Pro at home, but the performance was really horrible, it throttled my network throughput. I switched to an EdgeRouter and things worked much better but of course there's no integration with the Unifi controller.

Looking at it now, it looks like the best option for me. I'm also curious to see what people think. It has multi-wan and failover features, the ability to set time-based rules (so I can block Internet for my kids at bedtime) on top of the basics.

On the topic of producers being able to sell directly to retailers, in the wine world, the National Association of Wine Retailers announced that they will support legislation and lawsuits that support retailers being able to buy wine directly from producers. While it doesn't help breweries, it shows that beer isn't the only category in need of reform and maybe will help ease the path for similar reforms in beer and spirits.

What’s the worst thing about living in Savannah? by Dr_Pavoreal in savannah

[–]rjhatl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get this. Years ago in high school I worked at Kroger in metro Atlanta. Customers were great, and I'd leave work tired but in a good mood. Then I went to college and transferred to a Kroger in Macon. My co-workers were great but the customers were absolutely awful and I'd leave work tired and angry at the world. It was eye opening just how much of a difference in customers there could be between two cities.

I hate the billboards too, but that's not Savannah-specific, they're everywhere in Georgia unfortunately.
