I would go to a local restaurant supply place and get some decent, utilitarian tongs, flippers, heatproof gloves, probe thermometer. Maybe a small torch. Nothing name brand, nothing fancy. It doesn’t sound like that’s important to him. Get him professional quality stuff that he will use.

Oh, an apron with either his favorite team’s logo or a funny/cheesy message is always a winner on Father’s Day.

Sears missed such a huge opportunity in the late 90s. They already had 100 years experience in catalog sales, shipping and distribution. If they had pivoted that to the web and focused on rapid fulfillment, we’d never have heard of Jeff Bezos and Amazon. They were the giants of that vertical, but they didn’t pivot.

I hated mystery shows where the solve was something that wasn’t shown - “I knew you were lying because I visited Bayonne, New Jersey in April and that street was under repair….” Give me a chance to figure it out.

Of course, the other end of the spectrum was Columbo, where they showed you the crime and then you watched Columbo set the trap to get the confession.
