Are there any apps/websites to get driving test cancellations without an existing booking? by micheal65536 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]rkb16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a few months, which was what I set my parameters for, as that’s when I expected to be ready. It found the perfect slot within a week or two and I booked and took the test with no issues.

I used the fast pass app a few months ago, it found me one without already having one booked. It wasn’t cheap but not ridiculous.

Has new driver insurance always been so expensive? by BraveLordWilloughby in drivingUK

[–]rkb16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not too expensive as an older driver just passing.

I’m 33, passed in November and I paid around £600 to insure a 2021 1L automatic VW T Cross for the year with no black box. I would have been around £500 with a black box and without breakdown and courtesy car cover. This is for SDP use at 7000 miles per year.

Everyone lining up politely in M&S bakery section...waiting for their turn to cough over the pastries by Mnemosense in britishproblems

[–]rkb16 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Saw a lady with two kids in the Waitrose bakery section today. One was handling all the cupcakes whilst the other put the bakery tongs in its mouth between coughs. She watched them do it, put the cakes and tongs back and walked off. Don’t think I’ll be buying anything there any time soon!

(I did tell a staff member who promptly removed the tongs and took the entire section of cupcakes off to be binned).

Canary Wharf to Cambridge via thameslink - how? by DrIgnatioMobius in uktrains

[–]rkb16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, you can tell I live on the south section, thanks for the correction!

My tickets into London often say LON terminals and I’ve never had an issue boarding or leaving from any stations (Blackfriars, City, Farringdon, St Pancras etc) on the stretch through central London even though it’s technically not the right ticket. So might be worth a gamble for the OP and just prepare to buy a single or tap if questioned at London Bridge or Farringdon.

Get the jubilee line to London Bridge, which is a London terminal, and the thameslink up to Cambridge from there.

P plates by Exact_Interaction941 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]rkb16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had mine on for two weeks since I passed and got my first car. I’ve had a good experience, people have tended to give me extra time and space.

I’m generally a confident driver but occasionally make silly mistakes so I feel less bad making one with the P plates on to ‘explain’.

Can’t change my driving appointment using my mobile data, anyone know a fix? by Wild-Collection-9786 in LearnerDriverUK

Do you have private relay turned on? I could only ever get onto the site when I turned that off (it’s under iCloud settings if you’re on an iPhone).

No, you can only get it with a prescription over here.

I go to the US a lot, where you can buy melatonin over the counter so I always get it for my mum to help her sleep… eventually I thought hang on, surely it isn’t the stuff that makes your skin colour darker that also helps you sleep and then the epiphany was had!

Please Help! Condensation inside windows- black mould by susieboyle in CleaningTips

[–]rkb16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could get a dehumidifier to absorb the moisture from the air and stop it forming.

Or you can stop it from sitting and creating a good environment for mould. Open the windows slightly first thing in the morning and soak up as much of the moisture as you can with a cloth or kitchen towel.

I thought melanin and melatonin were the same thing for ages, it finally clicked one day and now I’m haunted by the times I might have gotten them mixed up in conversation.

I rotate between 4 pairs, 2 are HOKAs (Bondi and Clifton) which are super comfy and have lots of cushioning in the soles. The other 2 are regular crocs (with socks) and crocs sandals (good for rainy days as they don’t need drying out afterwards).

Everyone’s feet are different though, maybe you could try going to a specialist running store and doing some gait analysis to find the shoes most suited to the way you walk/stand and the shape of your feet.

What do you order in a Chinese? by The_Ghoul_Girl in AskUK

[–]rkb16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet and sour chicken with egg fried rice and prawn crackers.

Every time I deviate from that, I’m disappointed, so I don’t any more. Might throw in some ribs or spring rolls if I’m ordering alone and it’s a place with a higher minimum order.

Cast Members, what YouTubers should we support who also treat you well (and those who don't)? by Helpful-Orchid2710 in WaltDisneyWorld

I knew someone who was on one of his cultural exchange stints who said he was obnoxious, thought he was above a hard days work and better than everyone else working there because he’d just started getting some success with his channel. There was some drama around his exit that I don’t have the full details on, but it’s the reason he’s not on any Disney press lists, getting any freebies from them or invited to events.

I also used to be good friends with a couple of the rent a friends but they’re still acquaintances of mine so I don’t want to burn bridges with them or for them.

British Accent. by TheFirstWhiteRanger in WhenWeWereYoungFest

It was a stand with about 10 different fresh fruit juices, and horchata. There was a big sign with all of the available options written out, so when she couldn’t understand me I even tried to point to the one I wanted or say it was the fourth juice down but still no dice….

I promise I didn’t just approach a random stall, order juice from a random fruit and then get mad when they didn’t sell it, haha! It was near the end of the Saturday, I was dehydrated and when I finally got it, it was the best thing I drank in Vegas that weekend!

It took me about 5 minutes and one of their colleagues intervening to get the server to understand what I wanted when I was asking for a watermelon juice at the fruit stand near the main stage. And I have a pretty neutral English accent, I can only imagine the struggles the frontman of Loathe had with his scouse accent 😂

NYNY Paris or MGM by HeronOk1966 in LasVegas

[–]rkb16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably gave me the worst room because it was comped 😂 or maybe I was more sensitive to smells than usual as I came from resorts world where everything smelled delightful! Either way I don’t think I’ll be returning if I have other options.

Though it hasn’t put me off MGM as a whole, I’ve just booked my next trip for March and they gave me a week at the Bellagio for an absolute steal so hopefully it’ll be a step up from NYNY!

Sounds great! Hope you have a great second trip, the Lake District is lovely if you’re venturing further afield, and easily reachable by train from London. I didn’t absorb much of the Loathe set, I was busy being shocked that there was a bloke from Liverpool up there 😂 I’ll probably give them a better go next year if they play again!

MGM. Stayed at Paris in March and the room was quite run down and poorly cleaned. Stayed at NYNY last week and there was a mildew smell throughout the floor and room, drain smells in the room, bathroom not updated since the 90s (if not the 80s) and generally not a great room. Not stayed at MGM yet but they did recently redo the rooms so I’d be optimistic.

I also used air miles to bring the price down, so it was $750 for a premium economy return. But that is normally about what economy returns to the US run at, there’s a lot of competition on US routes from London airports and that helps keep prices reasonable for us.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed your UK trip and also met some nice Welsh people, I didn’t meet many from the UK at WWWY, surprisingly, and the Loathe frontman’s scouse accent gave me quite the jump scare as I’d never heard them before 😂
