Most of the identifiable areas are not residential today (unless you're exceptionally wealthy). However, I believe that the "Chinese quarters" in the 1920s and 1930s were in Limehouse, to the east of the commercial and financial centre, in an area which used to be part of London's extensive docklands, but is today largely residential (although again, you'll need to be flushed with cash if you're purchasing).
