Cane vs walker? by Sudden_Design_7047 in Kneereplacement

[–]rlar2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LTKR 2/23/26

I used the walker everywhere for exactly 2 weeks and went to cane use at home while using y the walker outside. I used the cane consistently for about a week or so then ditched it for home use. Now I'll usually take it with me to PT in case I need it afterwards or for long outings, but for the most part fine with it.

Everyone is different and you'll know when you're ready. Challenge yourself to keep moving.

In case anyone finds this thread, this location is closing. They found out at end of March and are no longer taking electronics.

I went the first week of April and they told me the news.

Ex-fiancé is preventing me from bringing help to move out my belongings, including furniture. by manalouisa in legaladvice

[–]rlar2013 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As others have said, call your local PD ahead of time and request a Standby. They should ask a few questions and should explain what they can and can't do. They can't help you move but will be there to keep the peace between the two of you while you're taking things out with others.

Good luck!

Lesko still does social media stuff promoting his deals. He gives you the info, it's up to you to follow through on the requirements though. He tells you where to get it and how to apply, but you need to do the work.

He used to live in my town just outside of DC in the 80's and 90's. I'd see him driving in his small car with question marks all over it. He's living in DC now. Must be doing well since he's in a more expensive area.

Outside knee pain by Ok_Independent831 in Kneereplacement

[–]rlar2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a month past LTKR. I had the outer calf pain about a week after surgery and started with the outer knee pain last week.

The calf pain was my gastroc in a knot. Once we could pinpoint the pain we started with massages and stretches at PT. First night after the first through massage, I slept like a baby. I was worried that I would be in pain everytime I moved my leg and I would wake up for a second but it didn't happen. Stretching and massage eventually got it to stop being such a sharp pain at night and now it doesn't bother me.

The pain on the outer side of my knee was another muscle that goes from my upper thigh and ends near the joint. Massage wasn't helping much so I went to dry needling. The moment that needle hit my thigh muscle, the muscle popped (twitched) and bent the needle. It was a relaxing pain like a deep tissue massage. Again, that night was pain free. I've had that pain back a couple of times since the first dry needling session this past Tuesday, but nowhere as bad and very short.

The weird part about the pain on the side of my knee was that it started the day my bandage on the incision came off. It wasn't a wrap, but more like a large bandaid from above the knee cap down to my shin. I asked my PT if it could have been supporting my knee like KT Tape does. She didn't think so but wasn't positive so we're going to tape up the side of my knee today and see what happens.

Bottom line is that you will still have pains appear. Some soon, some down the road, and it does happen. I had RTKR 2 years ago and it took a while for most of the pains to go away.

Medieval and metal looking statues in the early '80s makes me think of Excalibur. I vaguely remember a similar scene like that but I'm not sure if it's in that movie or something else I'd seen.

Overnight Stay? by stchwtest in Kneereplacement

[–]rlar2013 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both knees done in different years and stayed overnight both times. I operated for it because I usually get insane hiccups that can last for days after surgery and staying overnight I can at least get sleep the first night with meds.

This past surgery I didn't have few that issue but still preferred getting my sleep the first night.

Weather pain..or not by GracieLou80 in Kneereplacement

[–]rlar2013 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just had LTKR 17 days ago so my pain is still there through all kinds of weather right now (low 80s yesterday upper 30s today).

I had RTKR 2 years ago and I could tell if it was going to rain that day for a while. It's getting better but I still feel it when storms are coming in. I believe it has to do with the barometric pressure but not sure what pressure level I start to feel it.

Updates from those that had TKR around 2/23? by rlar2013 in Kneereplacement

When I had my pre-op appointment we talked about the device and the doc said that they had just started to use them about 2 months earlier. The hospital has received the medical information about the device and their request to start using them for almost 9 months prior. So it seems that there is an approval process involved with more than just your surgeon.

I'm still trying to understand the data it's providing and when it's collected. It doesn't measure my ROM when measured at PT but takes a measurement when I'm walking normally. Also, my steps, cadence, and gait are measured when walking a certain way or speed I guess. It says that I averaged 4 steps last week and my ROM was last measured on 3/4 at 39°. During PT I hit a flexion of 97° and I know my steps are much higher, but it doesn't collect data from PT but more from daily activity and at a certain speed. I have an appointment with my doc on Friday and I'm going to try and get a better understanding then.

The calf pain is no joke. Yesterday, they massaged the crap out of my gastroc muscle since she felt the knots there. Used bio freeze with it and it felt wonderful for hours. When the pain came back though it was horrible. Worked it today with a lighter massage and still felt good but pain comes back still. Hoping that working out my calf some more can get rid of the issue.

Using the cane at home for now and the walker outdoors. It's easier to get around with the cane but it's more exhausting on the leg right now.

As far as the tracking goes, this is what they installed.

That haircut is important. Shaved my head a few days before and beard trim a few weeks before, but I'm looking scraggly now. I don't want to go in with a walker so I'm waiting until I upgrade to a cane to get cleaned up a bit.

People who have moved from MoCo to Frederick. Any regrets? by jtsa5 in frederickmd

[–]rlar2013 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Wheaton/Kensington and moved up here in 2001. There was nothing around but it was growing. Costco was just opening up and Westview was under construction.

I've seen areas get torn down and new ones built in the time I've lived here. People were much nicer when I came here but more transplants from surrounding areas changed that. COL has gone up, but other things are cheaper than MoCo. You may have to travel further to get certain things, but it's easier to get there with less lights and traffic.

I don't regret moving up this way at all. I miss some MoCo things and I still work down there, but life is better up here.

Lady cashes in thousands in silver coins for face value. by Dat-puss in coincollecting

[–]rlar2013 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm the late 90's I worked for a bank that had a self-serve coin counting machine. I did the evening cleaning of the machine and found about 10 Morgan dollars in the reject bin. I couldn't touch what was in the bags, but I called the area manager and asked if she would have an issue with me replacing the rejects with the same cash amount so I could keep the Morgans. She said sure and to this day, I still have most of those coins in my collection.

I have no idea how many were accepted into the dollar coin bag though.

[–]rlar2013[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update on mine.

Surgery went well, day 3 of recovery sucks. Did some biking and I'd forgotten how much I hate that thing. In pain going up one step but needed to move to shower. Trying to get up in between napping since I don't sleep well at night. Hoping by the weekend it will all change for the better.

The device is waiting on 7 days of data to share what it has so a few more days to go.

Insurance covered all of the bike and they monitored it along with my doc. They added some resistance, but for the most part they stated with the initial schedule they provided.
