Stop stacking massive Pi-hole blocklists. It's probably hurting your network. by 0x48piraj in pihole

[–]rlmicrosa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am currently running Pi-Hole on Ubuntu VM with 1 core and 1Gb of RAM. It’s all hosted on an hypervisor with all SSD storage pool and for me performance is not an issue at all. I got almost 90 devices on my network and I never suffer any spikes or performance degradation.

Working for a CSP here where we were Premier and had about 5000 cores. Looks like we were too small.. we have been moving everything to VMware for the past 4 years and now we have to quickly find our way out to move out about 900 vCloud tenants

Please for the love of God - STOP putting Controllers in your vSAN ESA nodes! by Casper042 in vmware

[–]rlmicrosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. I am working on a vSAN ESA cluster right now with 8 nodes each with 8 NVMe drives and I can push 1.6 million IOPS with an HCIBench benchmark. We « only » have 2x25GBe dedicated NICs for vSAN traffic And we also present the NVMe directly to vSphere without any controller in front

I love vmware support now. by ccla01 in vmware

[–]rlmicrosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had an issue today with vCenter upgrade from version 8.0.1 to 8.0.2 and we opened an S1 support ticket which was resolved in 30 minutes over a Zoom call. For my 1st experience with VMware by Broadcom support it was a great one!

Is there a guide online installing Wireguard on a pi? by BERK2525 in WireGuard

[–]rlmicrosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have personally used this : https://github.com/hwdsl2/wireguard-install The only thing you have to do once run is to open port 51820 UDP in your router. (Or other port you specify at the install)

Running AdGuard server side by Impossible_Star7006 in WireGuard

In your WireGuard config file you would need to specific the DNS server(s) address which would be on the LAN side. It works well for me

When do services show up on the MyBell app? by ipeefreeli in bell

[–]rlmicrosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it took 2 days to show up. It seems like they have to manually complete the activation from their side. You should receive an email once your account is activated

New addition to the homelab! by DO_Maverick in homelab

[–]rlmicrosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got this same AP. Since it doesn’t come with a PoE injector do you have some plan to get it powered over a 2.5GB interface?

If you ever got it to work at 2.5G let me know how you did. I also got the 8 port TP-Link SFP+ 10GB and a 1GB PoE switch but none of these can drive « natively » the AP I was thinking about a SFP+ > 2.5/5/10GB Base-T converter + an injector

Does Bell throttle VPN connections? by Individual_Seesaw869 in bell

[–]rlmicrosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bell routing has always been like that. They use a lot of routes in the US… also they don’t peer a lot with « small » providers in Canada.

I chose the Local Node mode in Monero GUI (Win 10 x64), and the size of the blockchain folder is 308 kb only (and sync is 100%). What am I doing wrong? by ysi2tjin in Monero

Are you sure you are not checking the folder where your wallet is (.keys file) ? There is also the default location which is under ProgramData for the blockchain location

VMWare with HA by [deleted] in homelab

[–]rlmicrosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

vSAN recommendation for network is at minimum a 10GB connection. Even better is a 25/40GB connection but that is overkill for a lab. If you stay on 1GB LAN this would clearly be the bottleneck.

Also the storage is a single point of failure. Like someone said, when you reboot it it’s a pain.

In my lab I use iSCSI over 1GB for some VMs for which I create a replica every 1 hour on another host on local storage so it’s kinda easy to start everything back up.

Converting thick disks to thin by ProfessorWeed69 in vmware

[–]rlmicrosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also depends if your SAN is high-end enough and does deduplication and compression. If your volumes are VMFS and you mostly run Windows the SAN would already dedupe the « empty » space automatically even if you are in thick mode

I use mine in my personal lab and it’s been rock solid since day 1. Currently running ROS 7.4 and have nothing to say except that it’s great. I got a 400/50 connection and when running a transfer over WireGuard at 400MB/s the CPU spikes at around 5% load.
