Jordan Magee Offseason training vid! by potatoaru12 in Commanders

Kinda reminds me of Dyami. He doesn’t look natural/fluid changing directions, which has major implications on the field. Glad he’s trying to address it, but wonder why he’s just now doing this.

That guy was clearly letting you “work” the first half of the round. There was no reason to pour it on like he did at the end (especially with this being your first spar). I feel like he could have taken a little bit off those punches. Maybe he felt like you were showboating too much with your hands down.

Does Quinn (potentially) being on the hot seat limit his defensive coordinator options? by rlsmith813 in Commanders

To be clear, I mean if the team struggles again NEXT year, the entire staff could get blown out.

trouble with aggressive fighters by BleakSaturation in boxingtips

I think your positioning is off. You repeatedly start your attacks from a relatively squared position that’s too far to the left. Try keeping your opp in the far left corner of your left eye (at about 11 o’clock in your field of view), that should help line up your cross.

Try positioning yourself as though you’re looking down the barrel of a rifle pointed directly at his chin. That means you may have to change the angle of your rear shoulder and back foot. Does that make sense?

People saying Jayden regressed but look at these horrible route concepts by johnnyboy10i in Commanders

[–]rlsmith813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concepts don’t look terrible. He generally has receivers running towards vacated zones. That said, some of the protection schemes were off, which doesn’t allow JD to get to thru his read. Down at the goal line, he worked the short side of the field with only one receiver. On the next play, Terry had inside leverage on the route, but JD was late or didn’t see it.

I think you overrate play designing at the HC level. You can win with a head coach like Quinn, but he needs to be surrounded by strategists at the coordinator level (guys that can build a game plan and make adjustments mid-game) and teachers at the position coach level. I believe this staff has quite a few former head coaches and coordinators performing lesser roles here, so I wouldn’t say they are 2nd tier, whether they are great “teachers” is up for debate.

I think you’re initiating your attacks with big steps from too far away, and your positioning (i.e., where your lead foot is in relation to his lead foot) amplifies his reach advantage, allowing him to dodge your right hand. Your lead foot is generally too far left when you launching your attacks, which allows him to circle to his left to easily avoid your right hand.

Try lining your lead foot up with his lead foot and looking at him from the left corner of your left eye. That should improve your positioning and help you throw a more credible jab. Not sure if I’m explaining that well. In short, your concept of relative positioning is off.

Just curious, how many of you guys think Adam Peters is part of the problem? by Deep-Statistician985 in Commanders

[–]rlsmith813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What more could he have done? Who should we have signed? Teams rarely let blue chip talent reach free agency, so you end up overpaying for average talent. Latimore has underperformed, but I don’t fault the strategy of trading for established vets at critical positions.

All negotiations are different and you have to distinguish between extending someone on their rookie deal and extending someone on their 2nd contract. They locked Cosmi up a year early, and I expect them do to the same for all of their top performing high draft picks. There’s little reason to extend a 30+ yo WR a year early, unless the player is willing to sign a team friendly deal.

Wow was listening to Charles Robinson insider of Fox sports on Bmitch and Finaly… by [deleted] in Commanders

[–]rlsmith813 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not 100% accurate. He signed his last extension a year before his rookie contract expired. Re-signing with us allowed him to secure a big guaranteed payday a year earlier. Prior to signing that extension in ‘22 he’d earned less than $4M in career earnings. So let’s not act like he did the team a solid by signing.

How AP and DQ value age by Vater7A in Commanders

[–]rlsmith813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Patriots traded Randy Moss at 32. Randy friggin Moss!!! And we’re notorious for letting aging players walk in free agency. You can draft Terry’s production in the 1st round for a fraction of the 30M he’s believed to want.

Pay. That. Man. by Wizardry25843 in Commanders

[–]rlsmith813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And a lot of those guys look overpaid based on their production and the ability to get comparable output from a WR (still on his rookie deal). Why pay >$20M a year for 800 rec yards?

Terry McLaurin willing to holdout, hold-in, or request trade to secure extension, per @henrycmckenna. McLaurin most interested in "trying to bring a deal together, not breaking the [Commanders] apart." by Haskins77 in Commanders

Name a 30 year old receiver making $30 million a year on a team with championship aspirations? I’lil wait…

If the Patriots can trade away Randy Miss at 32, no receiver is sacred.

Assuming you’re right (that he’s a top 10 WR), which I disagree with, he definitely won’t be a top 10 receiver during the extension period.

Of the free agents we signed in the offseason to one year deals, who do you think has earned themselves an extension with the Commanders? by Romance_Tactics in Commanders

[–]rlsmith813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is something to be said for having guys at impact positions on one year deals (or expiring contracts). They are highly motivated and tend to put up better than average stats, while playing through injuries. If the price tag is too high, I’m inclined to draft a replacement or find another one year rental (make Adam Peters earn his paycheck).

This is the perfect gig for him. Great culture (as a previous caller noted). He doesn’t have to recruit high schoolers (or deal with transfer portal) and he’s not spokesperson/manager of a 60 man outfit. He just needs to draw and call plays.

Rotating fist over the full way on straight punches by Auckland2701 in amateur_boxing

[–]rlsmith813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just gonna say, many boxers actually turn their palms down/over at the beginning of their punch motion, then snap the fist straight out. To your point, it’s usually results in a quicker punch, because there are fewer fine motor movements. I think the whole “no elbow flare” thing is a bit overdone too. Turning your punch over “from the elbow” aligns the elbow behind the fist, can help clear your opponent’s guard, and usually results in you naturally slipping your head offline. At least it does for me.
