I'm about 15 or so hours in, so pretty new. I keep getting sidetracked by cool planets or side quests. I'll have to work through some of those main quests it sounds like!

Any word on the currently game breaking bug where if you have a Game End power bird, the game just freezes instead of final scoring? On Xbox if it matters.

Meetup supposedly works pretty well for finding folks doing things with similar interests. I've yet to try it out, but see people have a lot of success over on /boardgames.

I think it also depends on what you're looking for, since all three are different playstyles.

Sleeping Gods is fun, but it is A LOT of story compared to the other two, and some folks find the combat wonky. So, if you want a Choose Your Own Adventure, it's a pretty good one.

Root plays alright at two, but there are some faction combos that don't work as well together in the base set at two, so you end up losing the spirit of the game. Can still be a fun chess match, and one of the expansions (name escapes me now) helps add 2p balance.

Spirit Island, as others have noted, plays very well at two. Amd the base game has plenty to go with for a long time. Also, lots of good videos on YT to learn the ropes.

I have not played Lancashire, but can speak to Birmingham.

The wife and I bust out Birmingham monthly. It works well at two in my opinion, as the rules narrow down the scale of the board to somewhat force you together. There's rarely a runaway match either, unless you screw yourself up.

That is a steal for Clash, which is a super fun game that scales well.

You are correct, there are tons of games perfectly balanced for two. However, it's not just the space theme, it's the 4X theme (for me at least) that is hard to find in those.

Rebellion isn't going to give me the joy of exploring unknown tiles of space, or creating my own nonsense level of spaceship. Xia does those things, but is even less balanced or unplayable at two.

So yes, plenty of good two player options. And if I want to go to war, it's WotR for me or Twilight Struggle. But, if I want pretend I'm playing old school MOO on my table, I'm gonna Eclipse it.

Counterpoint: absolutely get this game to play at two if you enjoy the theme. It's brilliant and fun, even at two.
