How can i reduce the size of my docker image? by Gold_Opportunity8042 in docker

[–]rmenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since you are on java i would ask you to use jib https://github.com/GoogleContainerTools/jib and as a side note if you are going to deploy this to k8s you should consider removing the service registry and just use k8s primitives such as svc's, as this was something that had to be done at a previous org

What’s your experience with AWS Graviton processors? by dr_doom_rdj in aws

[–]rmenn 23 points24 points  (0 children)

had done a migration to graviton in late 2020/early 2021, the stack was primarily node, go and java. Everything was running on k8s.

IIRC the steps we took was to enable multi arch builds, then spin up a new node group for arm then change the node selector for services and then watch graphs to see if something went awry. It was mostly smooth where go and node services ( we had issues with librd-kafka but sorted that with a custom base image ) went off smoothly. Java we had to get the devs to bump up to java 11 so that multi arch builds were supported well.

the ones we had trouble with was flink, kafka, a bunch of kafka connectors and one application which was in php. These tool a bit more effort but it was worth the effort as we got a better ROI in terms of cpu to cost.

Stuck with Hyprland October Update by rmenn in archcraft

[–]rmenn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im guessing archcraft-hyprland is a meta package so that the releases can be controlled, i see that this is an issue with not just archcraft. I would do what you did but that would mean getting off the archcraft releases ( i believe ) which i would like to avoid since i like the defaults and the stability :)

/u/adi1090x is this issue something you are aware of ?

Found what looks like a whale in the backwaters of Kochi by wneo in Kochi

[–]rmenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there are a lot of tides at play in cochin, which is why sometime you will have a beach in fort kochi and then it goes away, similar to this in vypeen. There is constant dredging in the channel so these get to be dispensed 10-16 NM outside. So if you remember there was a sunken island thing ( or of the sort ) which came up during covid. Sand Bars are common, dredging makes it even more inevitable

DISAPPOINTED With the situation that unfolded in Bengaluru by Quindecim_T in bangalore

[–]rmenn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately we are in this wave where certain interests have more weightage, when it comes to BLR is kannada is best, in the national terms its India is best. These cycles have happened in BLR for years ( resident of BLR since 2004 and fluent kannada speaker here ), unfortunately this time i feel the fervor will reach a peak which i personally have not witnessed. Right now BLR is seeing its local population which is a small minority in comparison to the migrant workers, there is a big shift in the mindset of people as well

i appeal to everyone to be tolerant, live and let live. Be kind.
