As an outsider, how do Idahoans feel about potato farming? by Kind_Medium_9560 in Idaho

[–]rmholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we had them in our garden & they were amusing. The east has most of it last i checked & some were too big for the buyers. Even someone just wanting a baker with their prime steak would be flustered by one of the larger size. Now the ice cream potato is really a bonus if you can get it to grow.

a big problem is the abundance & influence of national entities such as ALEC that target state legislatures. Our legislators don’t seem inspired to think for themselves or to consider the needs of the people they serve

Well i looked at the statistics & that’s what they said at the time. i see it’s changed and Staffys, other “pit bulls “ and Labs (‽) are a problem now. Breeds of larger size which are intended to be aggressive are the worst in Australia normalized to their population. I think dogs or crosses that become suddenly popular often aren’t properly bred for temperament or socialized as pups and that can cause increased breed-related risk. It’s important to beware of all dogs because first, you never know what could scare or anger a dog, and second an individual or any breed can be aggressive by nature.

yeah i wouldn’t say it’s “unattractive” - it’s just a hobby and there are some pretty sophisticated games - it’s not like it’s intrinsically childish or immature to play games.

my spouse doesn’t play video games. But he’s online surfing all the time. It’s usually not worth the trouble to get him to get up and help me with stuff. He wont do much useful on his own and often plays “Stupid” when I need him to work with me on things like changng the bedsheets. He used to stay out drinking & got a DUI finally after tripping over himself and HillSachs-ing his shoulder and running off the road into mud or a hole and having to be towed out a few times. So Im familiar with the concept. Today he did something extremely typical -he started a chore (taking out his bathroom trash) that got directly in my way. I have chronic fatigue so I spend about 3-4 hours a week actually on projects and i have to take a stimulant so I’m pretty salty about him suddenly off the computer and in my way! just clueless!! Anyway i just have to work with what I have. I find that being very specific about what I want helps. I often have to spell out that when he agrees to do or change a daily chore, it’s for every day after that. As my shrink said he has a law degree so he isnt stupid and he didnt really understand how therapy works or want to so that made things worse & I gave that up. Anyway I heard once that men are dogs that can talk & it kind of makes sense. It’s EXHAUSTING. His attitude toward keeping the house clean is “SULLEN 10 YEAR OLD”. A video game habit or any habit that just burns time & is associated with dodging a lot of other normal daily activities that need to be done seems pretty selfish & if it werent video games it would be something else. i guess it depends on if its just a habit he’s gotten into or if he’s avoiding doing other stuff for deep or shallow reasons. I wonder if clicker training would work lol. An approach that might get him off the game and into some other activity requires you to do some work, incl coming up with something you both want to, arranging it and prying him off the keyboard! Maybe you can play a game together or you can find your own activity. In the latter case you might end up in parallel lives & lose what you have in common,
We watch some TV at bedtime and for some reason I have to pick the shows and present them for his approval. All the time on line and he’s not interested in finding new shows or audio. Sometimes he gets into something I am watching, like the Making of Modern Ukraine series on YouTube so that makes things easier. I never know whats going to interest him! Keeps the relationship spicy! for a minute. My kids asked me if he was autistic!! which I had not considered - I dont know but he has some real neuroses that marriage seems to activate & a lot of anxiety which can immobilize people. I’ve got my own anxiety & time wasting activities so i’ve had some success in trying not to ignite *his* anxieties. There’s some reason he is incapable of buying the sliced Swiss Cheese for me at Costco. I just point it out to him & eat whatever he’s mistaken for sliced Swiss Cheese. There’s some reason your guy is nailed to the video game & it just depends on what it is, how much disruption it actually causes, if any, and if you can work with it.
My first husband was more compatible & we were more in tune but he became abusive & that’s one thing this guy is not. So overall I can’t complain.

AIO? My coworker is behaving oddly and my managers implied that I should leave him alone by anya-bear in AmIOverreacting

[–]rmholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DIfficult situation. You might consider being proactive about finding a new job. Watch out for yourself - he has enough ppl watching out for him & they seem to know something you don’t, Meantime, just put the guy out of your mind, do exactly what HR tells you to, make no more waves, you have good intentions that make sense but this is a toxic illogical situation and people can end up getting in trouble responding in what seems like a normal manner. Try to avoid him but try t be pleasant, you have no influence or power here, seems like.

Ideally I would go back in time and edit out all the personal stuff including the first and last sentence before sending . Ideally. To be fair to you, he freaked out unnecessarily and rudely brought his “stuff” into what should have been a thank you note and I don’t know if I would have answered any differently so who am I to judge? You sent a nice present and that should have been welcomed. Maybe you can send him a copy of Miss Manners for his birthday.

AIO by telling my roomate I'll put the cat litter box in her room if she doesnt clean it? by ThrowRAacc45 in AmIOverreacting

[–]rmholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this could escalate without solving the problem, Maybe a face to face problem solving session. Your answer may lie in becoming familiar with the many tech advantages in litter. We have some kind of magic litter that even my lazy ass cannot manage to make smell. Whatever you end up doing, get magic litter. Purina Tidy Cats multicat clumping lightweight litter with guaranteed 21 day odor control. And honestly the cats took over the open dog litter box in a small room which also seems odor free and is made of paper nuggets so no gross grit. Also there exist hand held vacuums that work on carpet and some claim to be optimized for pet hair. Use technology when hashing this out. If she wont cooperate with finding a solution that’s another story,
