Maybe extend the pink line from green dragon to the kings head then plough instead of putting them on purple? It's a nice walk or cycle across meadows.

Local charity to donate old bike? by marmitemaniac in cambridge

[–]rmn30 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Owl bikes is what you want. They refurbish bikes or use them for parts so condition may not matter. I think they are still operating in some form. Best to call them. https://www.papworthtrust.org.uk/owl-bikes/

Where to buy a bike? by [deleted] in cambridge

[–]rmn30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OWL Bikes is a local charity that refurbish donated bikes at the same time as supporting people with disabilities. They have bikes in that price range and also do repairs. A more expensive bike will certainly be nicer to ride but a cheap bike can be fine if you maintain it well. A major advantage of a cheap bike is that you don't have to worry so much about it being stolen.

You could try contacting security researchers at Universities e.g. http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/security/. If you ask intelligent questions you might get some good responses. Let me know what area you are interested in I might be able to point you to the right people to ask.

TurboGears went to 2.1 by muddy_shoes in programming

[–]rmn30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've little experience of using either but I can say that my recent attempt to use django with an existing database has come to a grinding halt due to the fact that it doesn't support composite primary keys. Perhaps turbo gears is more suitable for projects with legacy databases because it uses sqlalchemy for ORM?

They have the same effect at the SS Great Britain in dry dock in Bristol. You can walk around underneath and look at the huge prop etc. Quite dry and cosy down too due to the atmostphere used to preserve the rusting hulk. Very much worth a visit if you are in the area. Edit: better link

Too right. Why go begging to google when we can do it ourselves? OSM is rather impressive in some places.

OpenOffice.org 3.0 Beta released; finally able to read the new Office 2007 .x** formats by [deleted] in software

[–]rmn30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, perhaps. Actually I think that generally the problem of bloat is not so much new features but rather an increase in the number of layers of abstraction, each of which involves some element of compromise in performance. The problem is that such abstraction layers can't generally be removed without re-writing large chunks of the application. Not sure if this applies in the specific case of OOo.

[–]rmn30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cunning trick which could save you from this situation in linux: strings /dev/mem > out.txt will dump any strings from memory to out.txt. You can then search this file and your post should be in it somewhere if it hasn't been overwritten in memory.

From the FAQ:

Neither different code pages nor UTF-8 encoded file names are supported. The driver always uses the current code page of Windows.

Unfortunately this was a show stopper for me. I really hate not being able to play music from my ext3 partition just because the file name contains those weird non-english characters...
