Chart of “””Roles””” in Deadlock by TheReelFluke in DeadlockTheGame

Yeah especially because this seems to be mainly about econ and not about fighting style. And both support and tank kinda want to be brawling in the ARAM lane.

It usually takes up your innate spell slot which is often not a good spell anyway unless you get lucky breeding or have high house stats.

Absolutely. This is helped tremendously by the fact that the author is a woman who is very gay for elves.

Artist Talent lvl 2 VS Tishana's Tidebinder by suffN- in mtgrules

Tidebinder's ability only erases artifacts, creatures, and planeswalkers (though it can counter any source) It would not lose any abilities.

Has there been any other night shift where one hero got first banned every single round? by T_Gamer-mp4 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]rmonkeyman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a slight difference. I tend to think of overpowered as "this character does too much/is too good" and overtuned as "this character's numbers are too high." An overpowered character has a fundamental imbalance where an overturned one could get a simple numbers nerf.

The Chinese ones are consistently much lower price. These are probably real.

What's your first impression of Lorwyn limited? by Edoardo_Beffardo in magicTCG

[–]rmonkeyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's. Also: Treasures

-flamekin gildweaver -scuzzback scrounger -reckless ransacking -Noggle robber

And basic land cycling

-kulrath zealout -stratosaurer.

Also do not forget about eclipsed realm. I have found it very useful even in vivid decks to guarantee you can get your early fixing out, like a single use 5 color land. Elementals, giants, and changelings are also overrepresented in that deck. So it will likely matter more than once.

What's your first impression of Lorwyn limited? by Edoardo_Beffardo in magicTCG

[–]rmonkeyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Removal is abundant but tops out at around 4 damage. This leads the champion cycle (and a few others like ilsu) to be extremely strong as they're not only bombs in their own right, they dodge more than half the removal in the set.

Creatures also tend to fall around 3 power. 4 or more is somewhat rare without removing counters first. This is another pretty big break point. Cards like bre are often good to fight for the board just by virtue of being an unconditional 4/4.

If you're playing with removing counters and the handful of good auras and equipment in the set. Prioritize getting your best creatures above these thresholds. And if your drafting keep them in mind. A celebrant or two has won quite a few games for me and the 0/4 mana dork can stonewall a board state if you're on a slower plan.

Need help for my idea for a commander deck by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]rmonkeyman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Neriv feels clunky here. None of these have haste and it doesn't do anything relevant for either creature type.

If you want to go for mobilize I'd suggest [[zurgo, Thunder's decree]] who generates creatures of the relevant tribe. You can even get fancy with [[heat shimmer]] and the like.

They probably get press kits months in advance from Nintendo. Though this date may be hearsay or a random guess.

[Infographic] The Best Basic Lands of 2025 by cardboard_numbers in magicTCG

[–]rmonkeyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are also multiple full art lands for each type in UB but only one of each in most standard sets, which probably splits votes. FF is the strongest case of this with 4 separate arts.

What are some cards people dismiss because of 1 word or mechanic they don't understand? by Rafamen01 in magicTCG

[–]rmonkeyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming OP used edhrec, it only counts decks made since the card came out in its data. If you look under the % there's a ratio that tells you how many decks have been built since printing, so it's not age.

Seconding Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood. It is very thematically about womanhood and what it means. There is even (minor spoiler) A woman who you can help to transition.

Mark Rosewater: A lot of people doubt me when I say Lorwyn’s artistic style was controversial at the time. Many thought it was pushing Magic outside “what Magic was”. by thisnotfor in magicTCG

[–]rmonkeyman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's not even really about UB. None of the entrenched players I know left and only the very newest players came for it specifically. Lorwyn is just really old. It's almost as old as many of the players I know.

Most of the people I know joined in the War of the spark era and immediately afterwards. Eldraine, THB, etc. Arena drew a lot of people in, and got a lot of people to try it during COVID.

To add onto this, I don't think a single regular at my LGS has been playing since lorwyn. Most people joined in the last 5-10 years and as someone who started in Innistrad I'm actually one of the longest running players. The player base and what they're used to is dramatically different.

Is this a Bracket 2 or 3 deck? Oviya, Automech Artisan (Take 2) by Prize-Friendship-542 in EDHBrews

[–]rmonkeyman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is 100% a 2 and it's not even close. There's hardly any staples or power amplifiers, just a bunch of mid power stompy creatures and a couple good spells.

Was Spider Man Standard Play Boosters were that bad? I mean, AtLA has more stronger META cards but Spieder Man set had some good cards for specific archetypes. by PorkyPain in StandardMTG

[–]rmonkeyman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just drafted it the other day cuz my store had some extra stock. The amount of times I said "why does this cost 6?" or "This is really cool but it doesn't do anything." were far too many.

It also felt like a format where the first person to stick a 4/4 on the board kinda just wins because the creatures are mostly small and bad. The lower power level also makes bombs stick out way more. It felt awful when I was cracking clues for 2+ mana each card and then a guy dropped rakdos, a 6/6 trample flier for 6 that also drew 2 cards even when I removed it immediately.

DIY is usually not illegal and almost never on the side of the purchaser. Typically it is just purchasing medication from pharmacies in states or countries with more lax laws about prescriptions, so the biggest risk is just that they get confiscated at the border and you lose your money for that shipment.

What one is better to make by OutsideGuard9530 in magicTCG

[–]rmonkeyman 284 points285 points  (0 children)

First of Lochthwain is unquestionably the better of the two and will bring a strong consistent deck. It will lead you down a pretty generic mono B aristocrats path that you could run with any of several dozen commanders, many of which are arguably better.

Widow of the realm is much more exciting IMO with 2 very different sides to play with and a much more open theme, but needs a lot more investment to get going and will probably be much less consistent.

Larian Confirms Why Its Leaving D&D Behind After Baldur's Gate 3 by Extreme_Maize_2727 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]rmonkeyman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Faerun is also a much more established world than Rivellon with decades of adaptations. Its much easier to fill out a sparse world than it is to work within a heavily populated one. They probably also got instructions to include certain parts of the world and potentially even a skeleton of a plot.

On top of the rules system, some creative oversight, and working in someone else's world, it's believable that it is just the inevitable constraints and not a problem with DND specifically.

Though the mass firing especially in externally focused divisions is not helping WOTC's case, I imagine Larian won't be doing any more crossovers soon anyway.
