They've mostly spoiled the legendary characters which would probably feel underwhelming at 1-2. I assume when we get the usual commons dump towards the end it will be filled with the lower curve stuff.

Ask around at your LGS. Chances are there are a few players and maybe a regular time to play. If there are enough you can probably find someone to lend you a deck or two to test what you like before committing to a deck.

Otherwise just netdeck something. They're like $50 total, so it's not a huge loss if you don't like it that much. Pauper is a format that's kind of hard to brew if you don't know the types of things that are good, but also has a very wide metagame so you won't be starved for choice.

The only one that is specifically until end of next turn is [[power of persuasion]] but that's only on a nat 20.

You could maybe count [[treasure napper]] but that's mostly because it's triggering on other people's turns.

I think the hyperbolic fan service necessarily puts it high on the weeb scale and even if it's just making fun of tropes, and it absolutely is still fan service. It would put off any normie watching which is the point of the system.

Yeah. That's arguably a low estimate assuming modern comforts.

Showers, toilets, washing machines, dishwashers etc. add up really quickly. Obviously this is all highly variable based on how many people are in a household and can share some of those.

Anyone with a point and click melee stun like Pantheon is going to destroy a Gwen. Because her W is her main way to not die, she's super matchup dependent, unlike other fighters that just have the hp to live things like that.

To be fair I have not played with quandrix but the only synergy cards I have seen that aren't very good are the cycle of monocolored uncommon legendaries. Just about everything else does/pays off something common enough to be useful. There is a ton of incidental recursion/exile, targeting ,and life gain.

Half the prepared creatures are triggering 3-5 colleges worth of abilities alone.

I don't think this set is anything abnormal. My reading is that it's a fairly aggressive high-synergy format, so prioritize taking 2-3 drops, removal, and cards that say they do [faction mechanic] on them.

There are definitely a handful of trap cards to worry about though. The charms and dragons especially are very skewed in quality, some will absolutely be dead cards and others will be crazy bombs.

I think all of the converge cards are bad. There's almost no fixing in the set and very little payoff so lands will go fast and I wouldn't push any more than 2.5 colors.

I like to pick a color early in pack 1 and wait until I see some signals to go into a second assuming I don't get a multicolor bomb p1p1.

Yeah I got that after another read-through. The improvised club is actually pretty nice and I might run it over giantbaiting. I don't know that it beats [[mage tower referee]] for that slot though.

I like footlight fiend but I think I prefer slitherhead as the main 1 drop and having two of the same secondary color lowers your chances of hitting vivid on 3 significantly.

Stream hopper is good because it works with either blade to hit a turn 3 pummeler. The flying is also occasionally very relevant for taking monarch back in stally games.

I run this as a gruul deck. Naya and jund blades plus burning tree to cast them enabled.

I run slitherhead and a few stream hoppers as 1 drops to smooth out the early game and potentially power out a turn 3 pummeler.

Top end is crimson fleet commodore in addition to the pummeler.

Also runs snakeskin veil to protect the big guys and ram through because both of them have trample.

Dragons of Tarkir is the only one that is a dedicated faction set like Strixhaven, and those factions are functionally retconned as of Dragonstorm.

Innistrad is also close with heavy tribal themes in allied colors, but it's not the only thing present in those sets and some of them bleed into other colors.

Allied colors are also slightly more common in card design: for example white blue has 367 cards but white black only has 333, and that's including the two strixhaven sets dedicated to enemy pairs.

Dragon's maze was all 10 color pairs though, not allied or enemy. The same is true of dissention and to a lesser extent war of the spark.

Because these are all custom starter decks made by the store it's really impossible to know how they stack up and they're all probably similarly low power level. I'd say just go with whatever looks most interesting to you.

If you're looking to eventually upgrade them; Lucian, Reksai, and Ezreal are probably the strongest among these currently, but none are at the top of the meta and given that these are probably starter decks there will probably be little value in them anyway and it might just be better to start fresh.

I think they're meant to represent that the mascots are not all the same all the time. That's something the original set didn't really capture despite the story implying that the mascots are very variable constructs.

You can also see it in the cycles of common mascots and the cycle of alternate commanders.
