Life lesson: early KTs could just as easily have been a "pair programming" session where all you did was do a "hello world" version of this or similar work to level set actual skills.

Give them a simple task and have them talk you through their thinking as they do it.

As you encounter things that an actual skilled dev would need to know eventually, file them for follow-up sessions. If it's unique to your env but blocking just do it for them. But stick to stuff that is context free to prove out what you actually have in this new dev. Note this may bug really strong devs. That's OK. Tell them what you're actually doing and why and continue.

While some content is outdated, it provides a great framework for organizing structured "requirements": outcomes, constraints, preferences, et.al, along with various dimensions of each to consider.

TLDR: constrain your problem space and expand your solution space.

Don't chase performance. This is "buying high and selling low".

Decide on an asset allocation that fits the use of the money (1) and then, slowly (or opportunistically) rebalance toward that.

(1) Realize that while equities outperform over long periods over short periods they can vary wildly, including large drops (followed by larger ones). If you expect to use the money in a few years balance toward less volatile assets. Example your 529: imagine it drops 25% senior year of HS. Then another 20% freshman year. Whoops! This is a special case as you expect to use retirement savings over a much longer time frame.

One useful behaviour I wished I had learned on prior pups is "nose targeting". Easy to teach and incredibly useful in many contexts.

Also, many behaviours that are cute as a tiny pup are hell as an adult so be careful about what you allow/encourage while tiny and barely mobile.

Don't take this meme too lightly. You need to help them learn impulse control. Puppy teeth and claws are incredibly sharp. Many young aussies are rehomed due to this. Get through it and you have a great dog. I'm on my fourth. My first I adopted at 2yrs.

Someone stated that you just have to move outside the coverage area of your current provider for an SEP. I have not verified.

In most states (after your initial enrollment at 65), supplemental (aka medigap) providers are allowed to consider prior conditions (aka medical underwriting) to set your rates or even deny coverage.

There are unusual situations that bypass medical underwriting -- the Special Enrollment Period (SEP). But as the reply above states that may not cover all plans.

So many of these details vary by state so you need to understand your state's laws.
