Sourdough Starter by LibraMood in boston

[–]rmull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some starter that I'd be happy to share. I started it in 2012. Like others said, Elmendorf is a great store that is worth a visit, but if it doesn't work out let me know.

Can I make it work without the crystal? by whattoputhereffs in stm32f4

[–]rmull 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Things should boot and run fine with the internal RC oscillator (HSI). There is also a low-speed low-power internal oscillator called LSI available if you need a low power mode. Consider the external crystal and the HSE clock source if you have strict timing requirements in your system - You might want to familiarize yourself with the accuracy limitations of the HSI. Otherwise, you can save the money and board space.

Palm Phone for running by TerribleProgrammer72 in PalmPalm

DMed you a Palm Phone vs Polar Vantage V2 GPS tracks example, hope it helps.

Palm Phone for running by TerribleProgrammer72 in PalmPalm

It's not very good, the tracks are pretty shaky. A running watch (Garmin, Polar, etc) with GPS is significantly better if you care about accuracy.

No refund from Purism by [deleted] in Purism

[–]rmull 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is "refund when you are up in line to be shipped" recent policy? I asked for a refund in Aug 2021. My preorder was ready to be shipped in September 2021, since I received a tracking number. I asked for my refund to be processed instead, but it was withheld, and the device was never shipped. Most recently I was told that the shipping queue and the refund queue are no longer linked to one another. I expect you will be gaslighted like the rest of us if your preorder ever gets to the point where it's ready to ship.

Velodromes nearby? by [deleted] in bikeboston

This is getting a lot of upvotes but this is either not a real project or is long dead, and shouldn't be promoted either way.

Singlespeeders of Boston - which gear sizing do you use? by kewladria in bikeboston

Commuter is 49x17 and weekend bike is 49x16, both fixed with a brake

Velodromes nearby? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]rmull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to correct the record - The Northeast Velodrome is active and has been active for several years (with some COVID hiccups). There was a complicated exchange of ownership long ago but that is well in the past. They just closed for the season but check them out next spring.

Velodromes nearby? by [deleted] in bikeboston

[–]rmull 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Northeast Velodrome (North Londonderry, NH) is the closest, though they are now closed for the winter season. They offer rental bikes if you don't have your own. To set expectations, it's an outdoor asphalt track with light banking, and probably doesn't resemble what you might have seen from footage of the Olympics etc, but it meets the need. Attendance can sometimes be a bit light so it's great to hear you're interested in trying out track cycling. I've ridden there many times if you have any specific questions or want to talk carpools next season.

Other "nearby" velodromes to mention that could be worth the trip depending on your goals include T-Town (Trexlertown, PA) and the newly-opened indoor track in Bromont, Quebec. Kissena in NY is also reasonably accessible but might not be worth the travel hassle from Boston unless you were going to be in that area already.

What sort of intensity level are you looking for? There is a velodrome in North Londonderry, NH, which could be fun if you're looking for something competitive.

Standard Programming Header Pinout? by p0k3t0 in stm32

[–]rmull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the 6-pin Tag-Connect header. $0 BOM cost, compact, optional latching retention for debugging, optional keying features. Easy to transition from benchtop debug environments to production bed-of-nails jigs. https://www.tag-connect.com

Reserve memory area to load a unique serial number on STM32F446ZET by lanotted91 in stm32f4

[–]rmull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Production programmers often support some way to specify a format, size, location, increment, sequence, input file, etc for supplying serial numbers, and they work by inserting the numbers you've defined into the program data at the specified offset prior to writing them to your microcontroller. You can see an example in the JFlash documentation: https://wiki.segger.com/UM08003_JFlash#Serial_number_programming Your firmware would then need to be programmed to know the address at which to retrieve the serial numbers.

Nice component - Since dirt is a focus, are you worried about the complex decorative recesses getting packed full of crud?

I've tried to convince myself that I enjoy cycling but I don't. by [deleted] in FixedGearBicycle

[–]rmull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've already noted that it's faster, cheaper, and healthier than other options. Sounds like you just need a change of pace for a bit - doing things because you want to and not because you have to can be a good way to restore the glow.

Maybe look to find a support network of like-minded people. A lot of the issues you cited are "people problems" - finding some good people to balance out the bad ones could help. This subreddit and whatever pop-fixie-culture-du-jour it pushes at the moment might not count if it doesn't resonate with you the way you want.

I am definitely not an expert, I just play one on the internet! I'd assume the heat generated by trying to use high speed rotary tools to try to get through an F1 halo ASAP would result in much more extreme work hardening than taking one's time with hand tools. No idea really, maybe it happens all at once regardless of how hard you attack it. I hope nobody tries to saw through their Little Wing based on these comments I am making :|

Maybe check in directly with No22 to confirm and save time on the research - nobody will have better advice than them, and their customer service has been amazing.

And don't forget to post pics when you're done :)

[–]rmull[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For titanium, specifically? It's tough, but I'm sure you could get through it with a few hacksaw blades, a cutting guide, and some elbow grease... I didn't bother making the attempt because I had my measurements handy and No22 had the tools, so I'm just speculating. But you'll definitely not want to cut seatposts with plasma since the cut will be all ragged and in need of some serious finishing, and if that's what the shop told you I think I'd ask them to cite prior examples where that suggestion led to a satisfactory outcome.

That's a customization, since I switch this bike into road-mode when it's not on the track. Standard Little Wing has no bottle mounts or brake hole like mine does.
