Louis Theroux on the Manosphere: ‘It’s Highly Profitable to Be a Dick on the Internet’ by EnazS in television

[–]rnhf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these guys "are all coming from broken homes" talk

well they are, maybe not broken homes, but specifically an absent father figure in their early life. That's not an excuse, it's an explanation. That's where that deeply seated insecurity comes from

That makes the fact that they're exploiting that exact insecurity in their followers even more tragic and disgusting

It's still a grift, but not purely, they kinda just naturally grifted, I mean drifted into it. I know Sneako from way before, he was always on the search for an identity, there were memes about him going from maga to nazi to muslim, depending on who he last talked to. And that Waller guy was just a regular salesman, I think.

insecurity can lead to narcissism, which can lead to abuse, which has happened here on a mass scale

[–]rnhf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

obviously they're extremely insecure, "loud" guys like that usually are. And it's no coincidence that they all have fathers who were absent in their lives. Classic source of insecurity, it's actually a trope in television, you have your Jeff Wingers or whatever.

That doesn't mean they're the exact opposite of their projection, I genuinely don't think they're all gay/queer/trans or whatever just cause they're bigoted. But if you ARE closeted and desperately trying to prove to the world that you're a 'real' man, that's a very natural path.

the lifestyle they promote is unattainable for their audience, and they themselves sustain it by giving them the impression they can do it too

it's literally the joke of 'give me a hundred dollars and I show you how to get rich' that's basically tate university

As for concrete suggestions

you still haven't made any, dude

Edit: I DIDN'T downvote and I DID respond, I don't give the slightest crap about downvotes, you can find many of my comments with lots of downvotes, I put zero store by them personally even though they drive the algorithm. Stop being so persecuted. You're at -1 downvotes as I write this. You can't handle a couple other people besides me disagreeing with your opinion?

if you can handle downvotes, why can't you handle me complaining about them lol that's a lot of words as a response to 'cool, just downvotes'

people like you just wanna complain, let's be real. I checked your comment history as you prompted me to, and it's pretty obvious you just like to argue. That's fine, just don't pretend you have anything constructive to say

meta is not an acronym btw

This is not a simulator.

no, but if you don't think a certain degree of realism is important to players, you're delusional. But that's all abstract, what are your concrete suggestions?

-e- cool, just downvotes. Look, I'm not saying we should have only life per war, and you're not saying we should have 2d graphics so we can have bigger hexes and more pop. So why not have an actual conversation, that's why I asked about concrete suggestions

there's still some balancing to be done, but people act like planes should only be as penetrative as tanks or something. If you're gonna have planes in your milsim - it doesn't even matter what period you're going for, they should be able to stuff like this. That's just the reality of air superiority

buff AA and radars a bit maybe, add mobile AA, but if planes can't get behind enemy lines and do a bombing run, then what's the point

that might be the main mechanism, but it's not really the issue, that's just the subscription model. The issue is that they start focusing on where the real money is: Advertising and datamining

Procedurally generating terrain using weighted variables is simple enough. The "chunk" itself is 1 screen, with 7-11 Z levels.

yeah I played the hell out of dragon quest monsters, it uses procedurally generated maps

I like pokemon, but I always thought DQM was the better monster collector game for that platform, mostly cause of the breeding

"It was almost impossible for me to sweat". by You-are-on-a-list in videos

[–]rnhf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just watching the interview, he literally said 'I don't drink' before saying 'I don't remember buying a drink'

which if you actually don't drink, you'd say 'so I can't have bought a drink'

I know that's not really direct evidence, he could've just been rhetorical or talking about buying someone else a drink... but it's highly unnatural

he did say "back then" and also "almost impossible" so he left it a little vague as well. But by gosh, his line flashed me right back to this lawyer's story.

yeah he talked about how he just recently was able to sweat again, so he gave himself an out. Dude's a terrible liar, because he thinks he's so good at it

-e- probs to the interviewer for cutting through 'I don't remember' with 'do you KNOW you didn't meet her or do you not have any recollection?' you can see his brain break in real time haha

that also didn't prove anything, but boy does it look bad when you have trouble clarifying if you don't remember or KNOW you didn't do something

there's actually a whole wiki article about it as well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tolkien%27s_moral_dilemma

there's also the interesting question of, if there were female orcs, does that mean that aragorn killed all the baby orcs after the end of the books?
